Since a young age I have always needed to urinate more regularly than most. I can last up to 4 hours between trips to the loo but it is more often as little as an hour (not good when stuck in a light aircraft for up to 3 hours at a time!).

I asked a GP about it a while ago, he said that drugs were available but were unlikely to be allowed if I was a pilot.

I have done some research before and understand that caffeine and alcohol are to be avoided and it helps to ‘hold on’ as long as possible as often as possible.

Can anyone shed more light on the subject and offer any advice please.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Certainly , any drinks containing caffiene, or that are carbonated (or both i.e.pepsi/coke) will make you urinate more frequently.

This is because they are diuretics which expel fluid from the body rapidly.

I would suggest no tea/coffee/fizzy drinks on yr day of flying, maybe a halfjuice/half water mix pre-flight, and then just sips of mineral water during your flight.

You can always recharge with extra water /drinks when you are 'back down' .

Drinking extra water/squash in the evening before, will mean theres a more than ample supply of hydration for you the following day without the need to go all the time.
