Was out recently and heard another rumor which may have some merit to it.
"Fedex, with their new postal contract wants Atlas Aircraft"
Supposely, Fedex needs the long haul heavy lift to assist the MD-11's and will use the smaller aircraft to augment the postal contract. This would alleviate the immediate shortage of required aircraft.
