Prompted by another thread.
Is there a “correct” order in which to proceed? For instance once you have got your PPL do you have to go onto Night Rating and IMC before doing the IR? Is the Night Rating perhaps included in some other Rating?

Why not buy a copy of LASORS? It will answer such questions for you.

It's a Night Qualification, not a Night Rating. The IMC Rating is only valid in UK airpsace.

Why would you want to obtain a PPL/IR unless you're a wealthy private owner? Professionally, it's probable that you would go from PPL to IMC to CPL and/or night......and then the IR. Perhaps obtaining a MEP Class Rating at the same time as the IR.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, BEagle - Shall look at LASORS.

To answer your questions: night qualification is not required at all for the IR, but is required before your CPL (otherwise it must be included in the CPL). The IMC is not a pre-requisite for anything at all. But BEagle is right, LASORS will have all the details.
