If an employer advertises let's say 1500 hrs plus some misc. experience as a minimum to apply in oz, does it mean that the person who applies would actually be considered taking the current job situation into account.
Up in the great white north an employer's website doesn't mean anything. they may post 1500 hrs, but not hire people with less than 2500-3000hrs.
is that the same in oz?

The hours quoted are generally absolute minimums. If an employer can get someone with more experience for the same amount of money wouldn’t you take them? Given the current over supply of experienced pilots at present, employers can pick and choose. When the supply of experienced drivers starts to dry up then employers may have to lower their experience levels to fill these positions. It’s basic “Supply & Demand”. :)

Yes and no, It usually depends if you know someone in the company, in which case minimums are often bent to the lower side!
On the other hand many other pilots are sometimes overqualified for some positions, and the employer can view someone with too much experience as someone who might stand up to prospective dodgy operations!!
Either way you can't win!!

Top of the Drop, spot on! But don't forget. . . Even if you DO have the minimums, they will have forgot to mention those little nagging 'moon landings' that you require to operate the 152's online!
