Just an unusual and positive posting..the much-maligned MYT are up and running, with over 1 million passengers in August (1st time ever) and MyTravel Lite accounted for over 10%..pretty good for a company so regularly reported as in the mire.

Anyone else got some good news, just for a change?

Hi MissChief, good news, especially if reasonable margins attained. :ok:

However, shouldn't there be more than this? Unfortunately I am unable to get a passenger figure from the MyTravel Group site, but "The Guardian" reported at the beginning of August, that MyTravel takes over 12m customers abroad each year, so only 1m in the peak month of August looks a little on the light side!

Could you check your source for this? The reason I ask is that on 18/9, MyTravelLite reported that BHX dealt with more than 1m passengers in August, of which 11.3% were MyTravelLite(115k pax). Confusion, or coincidence?

Whoops we did it again! MyTravelLite tops airport passenger figures for a second month running

MyTravelLite has done it again and for a second month running is officially Birmingham International Airport's largest airline carrying over 115,000 of its own passengers in August 2003.

MyTravelLite now equates to 11.3% of Birmingham Airport's total passenger figures for August topping last month's figures by 5,000 passengers, proving that MyTravelLite is consistently proving number one choice for Birmingham.

This announcement also comes in the week that Birmingham International Airport recorded that it has broken through the millionth passenger mark in a single month with over 1,017,453 people using the airport.

The MyTravelLite start up success story is one that will run and run. The airline has recently announced its1,000,000 booking even before it's a year old and sales for its recently released new winter destinations to Tenerife and Almeria have really taken off.

Three points -
Did the million pax in August refer to BHX or MyTravel in the original source?
If it is MyTravel (the tour operator group) that carries 12m pax p.a, some will be on other airlines, eg Monarch, Spanair, Pegasus etc.
Tour operators count a passenger as someone who buys a holiday. Airports count a passenger as someone who arrives or departs. So 1 holidaymaker = 2 passengers!!

Can anyone clarify?

MyTravel group (and presumably their pax figures) includes companies like Cresta Holidays, a leader in weekend-break type packages with accommodation to many European cities on scheduled services from Heathrow. They give BA a lot of business. They even do a lot to Paris on the Eurostar train. So by no mans all the group's customers are able to be handled on their airline.

How many of the million were waiting for flights delayed from the previous month?

Okay, let’s clarify.

The 1 million passengers carried for the month of August refers to the 1,026,490 passengers carried by MyTravel Airways Ltd (to/from anywhere, not just BHX).

This does include MyTravelLite, which is a trading name of MyTravel Airways Ltd. It does not include MyTravel Airways A/S (our Danish sister airline). Nor does is include passengers on package holidays from the MyTravel Group carried on other airlines. So newswatcher, that’s why the figure “looks a little on the light side”.

To clarify the point made by LGS6753: this figure is derived from counting a return passenger as two passengers. The alternative would be to count passengers only travelling one-way as half a passenger. As pointed out, the confusing people are the tour operators who would count a return passenger as one holidaymaker not two.

Lastly, this 1 million passengers is not to be confused with the recent announcement (http://www.mytravellite.com/skylights/html/news_sep03_03.htm) by MyTravelLite that they had just taken their 1 millionth booking since sales started.

Thanks for the clarification U/S President. MyTravel Group have yet to announce this from their own news site. I would have thought that the PR department would be more than happy to post any good news!
