Major Runway and Taxiway announcement by Canberra Airport

A Major Development Plan was released by Canberra Airport yesterday for a Runway extension and upgrade to the taxiway network. It got prominent coverage in today's Canberra Times:

The document can be viewed on the Canberra Airport website with a link off the main page. They want public comments for the next 90 days.

They can lengthen the runway all they want. But if they really want to improve payloads out of Canberra they're going to have to flatten a few mountains.

It all seems to be part of the attempt to make Canberra Sydney's "second" airport.

I thought that idea had already been knocked on the head.

If they improve the tower hours along with the runway then it could be a better alternate for inbound heavies from OS.
