Can anyone recommend a UK reseller of laptop hard-disks?

I'm looking for a replacement drive for a Dell Inspiron 8100 (40Gb) but as it's the first time I have had to do this I'm not sure who to go for + Google generates loads of spurious results - can't see the wood for the trees effect.

Cheers,

amanoffewwords,

Here is a list of 2.5" drives from Dabs:

Notebook computer hard drives. (http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-search.asp?action=search&tid=734&ob=manufacturer&stab=ref)

Take Care,

amofw,

Dabs are about the easiest. I've bought a couple recently. They are especially good at having the ultra thin ones (9mm) for the very slim notebooks (eg Sony).

I bought an IBM Travelstar 40GB for GBP106 incl. Insight are my favoured suppliers but they didn't seem to do these drives.

If you know what you want/need then try:

Ebuyer (http://www.ebuyer.co.uk)

I ve alaways found them just about unbeatable on price and usually next day delivery.

Here's an extra couple for you to try, both reliable from experience...

Novatech (http://www.novatech.co.uk) Also excellent prices for ready built systems

Misco (formerly Global Direct) (http://www.misco.co.uk)

Thanks all,

I was actually wondering if there was a specific laptop parts supplier as opposed to a more generic supplier of IT kit. I guess not..but it's not a problem - it's my first laptop HDD replacement so I kinda got lost in the jungle...

In line with Fobotsco's suggestion I'm going for an IBM (all my PCs are IBM empowered in the hard-disk arena) + will use good old Dabs as per Richard's suggestion - insight are quoting a lead-time of 22 Sept, Technomatic, scan.co.uk, Novatech and all the others I have visited do not seem to stock them (including those suggested by pilotwolf and Front_Seat_Dreamer).

cheers

Well if you really want to spend the extra money, you can buy authentic Dell replacement HDDs here (http://www.laptopbits.co.uk/Database_files/Dell_Inspiron_8000_8100_and_8200_Hard_Drives.htm).
40Gb will set you back £225 + VAT + delivery. :oh: :{

...err....no thanks...my customer is a simple petrol-pump dealer (we're talking refineries in Iran) and can just about afford his office in Eaton Square, house in Chelsea and his chauffeur driven Merc (not to mention his house in Monaco) etc... Always causing me problems, his wallet is constantly full of £50 notes and I never carry any change :p ...
