Well what can I say what a wonderful day. The weather stayed away which allowed a very varied display. The Barnstorming segment was amazing, all credit to the Chipmunk pilot, a very tight series of manoeuvres to cut the ribbons with his prop and pick up another ribbon afterwards. A word to the wise, if you see Hairyplane flying towards you, hand he’s loaded with flour, there aint no hiding place :D

It was good to meet Hairyplane (again) and VintageATCO. Oh and to the pilot of the Robin who flew under the displaying Bulldog, we have your number. Anyway, here are the piccies.

Finally a very big thank you to Hairyplane for making the next 2 shots possible. Thats another one ticked off the lifes ambitions list

Edited to remove some repetition of images. The ones you thought you saw before, are now down below.

It was truly an excellent day, MotF!

Disbelieving the wretched weather-guesser, I set off from British West Oxfordshire to Old Warden with fingers crossed for fine weather - which indeed it was. Great day, great aircraft - and good to meet up with old chum Airbedane and to meet Hairyplane, VintageATCO et al.!

But what a shame that the Mew Gull has gone:{

Shall now have to hope for a Speed 6 for Christmas instead!

You can keep Duxford, the stately and well-flown displays at Shuttleworth are so much more attractive to my eye.

Absolutley cracking pics, MotF - is it my eyes, or is the Tomtit's suspension a little unequal? Some fantastic gems there, wish I'd made it - memo to self: get to Old Warden again next year!

Cheers

Cheers Beags

What a pity we didnt meet.

May I suggest a mini bash sometime? How about a PPRuNe Picnic???

I went to Duxford the day before. Now I am still stunned each time I go to Flying Legends, however one cant beat Shuttleworth on an English summers day. I even put my hand in my pocket and joined the SVAS.

So did I!!

That was you with the 2 cameras with the 'long tom' lenses then, I guess!

'Man of the show' award must go to the chap who worked so hard to get the Tomtit started!

Another sound to add to BEagle's favourite aeroplane noises - the Bristol fighter in a fast dive!

Only one Camera I'm afraid. Spent the day standing by the tower getting Test Score updates from Arthur. hairyplane or Vintage ATCO should be able to point me out next time.

I do have a massive extendable lens though

Man of the day for me was the poor sod who flew the EE Wren then had to leg it over to get the Hornet Moth up.

Nice one MOTF.

Next time you're at Old Warden, get Hairyplane to introduce us. The first I heard you were there was as he was strapping you into the Magie and by then, I was well 'cream crackered' and off to my flat for a quick forty winks!

The pilot in the Wren and Hornet Moth was Rob Millinship. As well as being a fit young runner, he's an expert builder of aircraft too, having helped Don Cashmore build the Cygnet and restore the ANEC, which should fly soon.......

The Tomtit - the suspension sometimes falls like that. Watch it next time it lands, then try to work out how it's articulated, then you'll understand why. In fact, when you do, let me know!

Joining the SVAS, well done you! Anyone else out there also interested in Shuttleworth, please do the same. The money goes to the Collection, and there are significant concessions - but, not flights in the aeroplanes, unfortunately.......

All the Best

PS: PPRuNe Picnic.

What a good idea! There's two shows left this year - 20 sep and 4 oct. The show on 20 Sep starts at 1630 and goes on to sunset.

It's probably too late to organise a big do this year, and the weather is beginning to break so a picnic may not be too good an idea. However, an evening show next year - May, June, July or August - may (excuse pun) provide the answer.

All we need is a volunteer to coordinate it. Any takers?

:)

I'll keep an eye on the Tomtit Airbedane! THink the only time I ever saw it fly was when it had its unfortuante incident with a taxiway lip at Mildenhall many years ago.

I'll have a stab at getting to one of the other shows this year then! Excellent.

PPRuNe picnic? Great idea! I'll do the scrambled egg sandwiches... (Mmmmmmm! Darn, I'm hungry now, those cornflakes don't a square meal make!)

In the meantime, how about a Nostalgia Bash at a pub, perhaps on a Saturday afternoon in late October/early November? I'm thinking at a decent pub, close to a mainline railway. to where we could get fairly easily from our various corners of Merry England? Any takers? Any suggestions where?

Picking up on the Pprune picnic.
Might be a better idea to hold it outside of an airshow when flying is less retricted.
Quite happy to open up Air Traffic for the day and perhaps organise one or two extras.
Any ideas on what would go down ?
What do you think Airbedane ?

We are planning a couple of Fly-ins over the winter and subject to the weather and aerodrome conditions.
Currently earmarked dates are 1 or 2 Nov (Witches and Warlocks Fly-in, 19 or 20 Dec (Christmas Cracker Fly-in) and 21 or 22 February (Half Term Fly-in).
Any thoughts on wether Saturday or Sundays would best suit ?

If it would be open to non-flying PPRuNers then I would much prefer Saturday.

Just tell me when and I will do my level best to be there.
