I received the following today:

<<Gerry Gill's son, Derek, advises that that his father died on Thursday 28 August in hospital at Castle Douglas. Gerry had been fighting three forms of cancer since 2001 and he lost a very brave battle to brain cancer. He was cheerful to the end and passed away very peacefully.>>

Gerry was an instructor when I did my primary ATC course with IAL in 1967 and he will be well-known to more senior ex-IAL staff and controllers at airfields around the UK.

He was a great character, always smiling and terrifying us with hairy stories. I owe Gerry for his patience and understanding whilst I fought to come to grips with procedural control.

God Bless you Gerry... see you on the other side mate.

I remember him well.

Gerry was always so cheerful, greeted everyone as a long lost friend and was one of many who made IAL a "family", not just a company.
