Actually no JSFs have been ordered. The govt has just selected it with an expectation that up 150 will be ordered.

It does raise one interesting question. The reason the govt selected the STOVL version was because of a two year ISD delay by procuring the CV variant. If BAe opens up another production line then this reason may no longer exist.

Comments?

Of course! - end up with a better version of the kite AND a shed load of jobs! :D

Now, what about those ships...

The best bit in the article is at the bottom,
Bae have being working on a "STEALTH FIGHTER" code name "REPLICA".

Must be the Nimrod replacement then

That this has little to do with Pres. Blair but its Uncle Sam's decision if they will let us build them here. Why would they?

It's all to do with contracts and the like. The UK could afford to buy more (and risk share in the development) if they can build them under licence in the UK.

Look at Australia. They licence build F/A-18s, PC-9s, Blackhawks and more. Hundreds of contractors are involved, and the spin-offs include a technology gain. Some of Australia's mods have even made it back to the USA, which must be a money earner. I say that there should be more of it. Partnerships with some of the world's best and largest aerospace companies can only do more with the limited Defence Pounds.....
