cx interview impossible for me but all my friends got it ?

ok i have been applying at cx for 3 years now . I know a lot of people who have the same hours (around 3.000) . The thing is i am 39 these guys are 24-34 . Am I too old ? It seems once you got about 1.000 of jet the age restriction seems to change a bit , but i have no jet time yet . anybody know the answer ?

One of CX screening criteria is hours commensurate with age. It would appear that being 39 with only 3000 hours and no jet time, you would be in the lower end of the spectrum. If you haven’t been given a “You don’t meet our minimum criteria”, keep trying. Update your resume more often. Give flight crew recruitment a call every now and then to see where your file stands and when more interviews will be conducted in your area. Remember the squeaky door gets the oil. Keenness will be the thing that may get you a shot at an interview. Good Luck. :ok:

Interviews being conducted in europe,oz and north america have been well documented in these forums but howabout for guys applying out of asia/south east asia or russia or any other areas for that matter......do they all go to HKG....or have to go to one of the above areas or dont even get called at all??

Not sure how they handle applications from around Asia. Else where in the world you would have to get yourself under your own steam to one of the interview points. If you get a second interview, CX pays for you to come to HK including your spouse if you are married.

It seems that Andrea Lucas is no longer the person in charge of flight recruitment. If you're sending a letter or e-mail, best address it to Clare Delaney. However, I do not have any contact info for her, perhaps someone else may be inclined to offer that information.

Tony Penny has been the flight crew relations manager Airbus since beginning of last year.
Try Carol de la Harpe, I believe she is the person for SO recruitment and yes, the other person is aussie Claire Delaney.

Has anyone applied to CX from the asian regions and gotten an interview...am just curious to find out where they ask you to go for the interview.....thanks in advance.

There are a few who are flying as SO, all of them had jet time before they got a call from CX. I guess they call you to HK. not sure........:confused:

I am doing preliminary research & a CX wannabe from S.E Asia.What a great forum, a treasure trove of information. Fantastic work & am very appreciative of the time & effort rendered by all.

I probably share Shenlin's predicament,with 3000+ hours mainly in multi engine pistons & single engine turbo props w/o any jet (100hrs). However this is because I am a military pilot with a major portion of my hours dedicated to instructing ab-initio & multi engine rather than operational flying.I am 36 & will be 38 when I leave with CPL/ATPL.Will CX consider this in their experience commenstruate with age in their screening criteria.Will I even have a chance to be shortlisted?Although I do have former colleagues ,even from RAAF making it there although probably younger.

Alternative would be to join a regional to get 1000 hrs but that will be 2 years at least and a long detour.
Or I can go for a self sponsored 737 type rating.


Can anyone with similar military flying background in CX shed some light on this.

just got the general letter again , thanks for updating etc etc ect .
no interview in sight , even so interviews will be held in my region in 3 weeks .
well i give up , i have been applying for several years , seen guys get hired that had less flying than me and sometimes even questionable hours in their log books .I have a degree in psychology , worked in ATC in europe ,speak 2 languages fluently,but for some reson i guess my age is against me .

Shenlin - interesting that you mention questionable hours with regards to Cathay recruiting. There was a thread or two over on Dunnda that alluded to a certain individual from NZ of questionable ability that was hired. Said individual put a P68 on a road in NZ whilst operating IFR through their basic incompetence. They evidently had a history of problems with regards to exams but were hired regardless. Apparently they were halfway through the Adelaide course when a disbelieving passenger from the P68 flight sent the incident report with a letter to Cathay. Pilot subsequently given the boot but this raises the question of how thoroughly they check cadidates backgrounds. We have been led to believe that they hire the 'best' but I do wonder what they mean by that! :E
