Hello all,

My apologies in advance if this is not the appropriate place to post this question, but here goes.

I am currently restoring the forward fuselage section of one of the three ex-Qatar Emiri Air Force Hunter FGA.78s, in this case tail number QA12. These a/c were refurbished Dutch F.6s and were delivered to Qatar in 1971 and retired in 1982. For some of that period I believe that they were flown and maintained by seconded RAF personnel.

I think that researching the history and service of these things is as much a part of the restoration process as the bolting of bits back on, so is there anyone here who was involved with these Hunters back then?

I'm looking for any sort of info to add to my research I suppose - photos would be great (in particular of QA12), history, stories, anecdotes...anything really!

Again, apologies if this is not appropriate in this forum but any help would be very much appreciated.:ok:

G085H1TE,

I have a relative who flew the Hunters here in Qatar. I haven't been in contact with him for a long time but I will see what I can do.

GO85H1TE,

You might just get more replies to your enquiry it you transfer this thread to "Aviation History & Nostalgia". It usually produces results.

Anyway, welcome to Pprune.:ok:

Thanks chaps!

HF-in-Doha: the love and support of ones family is a beautiful thing. We should all make every effort to keep in close contact with our dear friends and relatives at all times and I'd hate to think of you losing touch - not that I've got any ulterior motives you understand!!! ;) ;) . Seriously though, that sounds like a cracking lead - any info you can find would be very gratefully received :ok:

Theres a website somewhere that has photographs of virtualy every fast pointy thing the RAF has ever owned (if a photo exists of course)along with a potted history of each airframe.
I was looking for a specific Phantom (which I found)but I recal they had a Hunter section as well.
My H/D has been formated since then so I do not have the URL.

I think the web site is none other than Damien Burke's 'Thunder and Lightning's here:
http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/hunter/index.html

or else try here:
http://fly.to/AirNet/
and hunt under Hunter!
