A coastguard helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing following a suspected engine fire during a rescue.
Crews from Portland were called to rescue an unconscious woman who had been pulled from the sea at the North Beach in Swanage, Dorset, at around 1730 BST on Saturday.

While the helicopter was waiting to pick up the woman, an alarm went off in the cockpit and the craft made an emergency landing in a nearby sports field.

The woman was treated at the scene and then taken to Poole hospital.

Replacement helicopter

A coastguard spokesman said: "We were on scene waiting to pick up casualty from the beach, standing off - when they got a report of an engine fire and had to make an emergency landing.

"The ambulance crew was already there, and the helicopter winchman, who is medically trained, assisted them."

Coastguards say the helicopter will remain out of action until engineers have examined the fault.

A replacement helicopter is now operating.
