Luton Tower
 

If anyone is taxiing onto the main apron today then take a last look at Luton’s old 1950’s control tower as it is being knocked down this week. A very sad end to a grand old lady that was built when Luton was still a grass airfield. I have a photo of a Comet parked under the tower when it was under construction with the original wooden tower in the background. Shame that I can’t post it here.:{ :{ :{

I understand that another Luton airport 'wrelic' is with the contractors tasked with its demolition!

Yep that’s the photo. I hear that the original wooden terminal building by the control tower is also a goner.

Why is it that all pictures of that particular vintage appear to be taken on foggy days, or is it just my imagination!!
