The end is near for CVT. 2nd approval been given. Guess the final approval for the giga factory will be known soon. A proportion of the airport has been knocked down, guess in preparation for the new factory.
At least CAC has part of its building just outside the airport perimeter.
Better get the for sale sign up!!
As for other schools, guess Wellesbourne is a stop gap.

Any further news?

getonittt 9th January 2025 10:28

Yes, tomorrow the WMCA board are expected to approve the full business case for the Coventry Gigapark :

Update on ambitious West Midlands multi-billion pound investment project that will change industry

Obviously more pie in the sky than Planes in the sky , with the promise of 30,000 new jobs , tax incentives & cash investments blah blah blah .

No need to worry. According to the Birmingham Mail story it's to be "a 2.5 square metre Gigapark based at Coventry Airport" so just tuck it away in a corner somewhere. Oh, for the return of proof readers.

Recent hitory makes me think that many of the new jobs supposedly provided by large warehouses anywhere will actually be done by robots.

It has been reported that based operators at Coventry Airport have been told to leave the site by 11th June 2026

Very sad news

I thought its used by royal mail

N707ZS 8th November 2025 05:54

Does this mean all aircraft have to leave by June 2026?

Welcome to pprune.

Royal Mail effectively left Coventry Airport in December 2009, when the airport's operating licence was withdrawn by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and all commercial flying was suspended.

Coventry Airport to close

No words can describe how I feel about the latest news regarding Coventry Airport .... It's been sold down the river by Rigby and Coventry City Council.
Just had this email from my old flying school.
Just to let you know that the Joint Venture ( CCC and Rigby Group ) have advised the CAA that they will cease all flying operations at Coventry Airport June 11th 2026.
They still do not have an investor but they believe that by closing the airport they can prepare the site and make it more attractive to potential investors for their development plan.
My thoughts .... So they don't have a plan but sod it lets close it anyway.

So little commercial activity at Coventry these days. On the positive side, it will mean growth for nearby Wellesbourne airfield I guess.

up_down_n_out 10th November 2025 17:30

Last time I was at Wellesbourne we helped push a Spitfire out of the hangar, fuel it up and watch it take off to fly back to I believe Filton.
The previous day the pilot had got a bit enthusiastic in his roll over for the pleasure of the public and tore out the intercom wiring - ending in a return to Wellesbourne for repairs.

EGBE. My second home since 1980. 200 airfields have been lost to greedy speculators and developers in the last 40 years. Ok aviation isn't the most eco friendly but these prime flat green spaces have been destroyed and the wildlife havens and amenities they provided have gone forever.

speedbird91 10th November 2025 19:44

I, like so many others, have fantastic memories of visiting CVT as a child to watch the traffic, and later in life learnt to fly there. So many happy memories. This is such a travesty.

Will there be any events at the airfield prior to the closure?
