Blackpool is supposed to be a major resort, yet the airport did not fly many tourist in from the continent - Did they?

There are is the Pleasure Beach, in particular 'The Big One' - ' The Golden Mile' more 'Shows' than Benidorm could boast. Circus, three piers - never caught on with the Europeans - never caught on despite improved weather,

Hotels not as good as Spain ect - That's the only downside.

So, one way of looking at this is that BB would prefer to maintain an aviation usage on the site, whilst the council would like to build on it! (OK technology units not houses)

Not necessarily. North Denes is not licensed and has been supporting offshore heli ops for years.

Grandfather rights. I don't believe an operation like that would be sanctioned nowadays.

Are the trains not convenient? Direct to the airport station at MAN is only £23 return from Blackpool North.

Cheaper from where I live - But the time I would have to be at MAN, there would be no trains to get me there, or I would have.

Interesting item on BBC North West Tonight, this evening. Pax very annoyed that they are still being required to pay the £10 head airport development fee ..

Same on ITV - Showed a woman checking in for Dublin, a bit hacked off, She said she would use Liverpool in the future (or words to that effect) - The ADF was mentioned. The camera showed round the check in area, kind of sad,

Last day of Jet2 operations today, yet the airport are showing the, now departing from MAN, Tenerife flight leaving at 09.00 tomorrow morning and the Alicante at 09.30. :rolleyes:

I Recon its all a way of getting shut of jet 2. they seem to have got themselves such a great deal from the airport (as upheld in the high court) that the airport couldnt make any money from them. the ancilliary revenues opportunities were too limited (people literally dropped their bags and walked onto the plane possibly having secured 14nights car parking for £20 ((bargain)). miraculously i think a buyer will appear once jet 2 (and its contract) have done one never to return. it'll also be a chance to put up rents now the based companies have had the wind put up them and staff can be reemployed on lesser contracts and consider themselves lucky. what rff would need to be maintained for the iom and dub flts?

You are probably right. But a new owner would not find it that easy. Who would replace Jet2?

Liverpool will gain more than MAN IMO, a much more user friendly airport, once you have found the place.

jet2 have gained nothing and neither has BLK.

I won't be doing many more flights anyway, after Greece next year, I probably will be looking at Britain (not slotty Blackpool) - Can't be bothered with MAN, and can't ever find Liverpool getting as I can't be bothered. I can get in my car and pick a nice week and not have to get up in the middle of the night, for an early flight,

There is a scale of charges on the airport web site for Blackpool Airport.

Looking at the mass of the Jet2 aircraft, passenger numbers and extended opening hours, it's hard to imagine that the airport is making such a loss.

Are all the airport's bills being paid?

Very logical suggestion there from dada, the airport we'll be a more attractive proposition without Jet2 and repositioned costs. Moreover with an ability to move to a shorter operating day and no based aircraft, effectively with a clean sheet of paper it could be re established .
