Airside Security

Having had my luggage rifled and items stolen on Tuesday night at Charles de Gaulle , Paris, what does this say for airside security ?

Where is the security ? This IS a worry !

Adam - unfortunately, rightly or wrongly, airside security is predominantely about stopping the bad guys getting in. It doesn't always work, but it does most of the time.
Unless you're clued up enough to notice yor loss immediately, the perpatraor of your theft will either be off shift, or have had time to pass on your goods to someone who is leaving before them.
It shouldn't have happened, but it does, and unless ground based intelligence is improved, it always will.

The infuriating thing was that I telephoned CDG straight away with the information that one of the items stolen were cigarettes with an "Eire" customs seal in the hope they would search respective staff. Unfortunately they didn't care less and just gave me the telephone number of Air France SALES (!!) in UK.

I have made enquiries in the passenger airline business and have been told on several occasions that theft from passengers is common and that collusion amongst supervisors and managers is widespread - especially at CDG.

I work for a french company, Saint-Gobain, and regulary flew Air France. After this latest unsavoury event on Tuesday, not any more. BA here I come !!
