This sounds encouraging but I suspect there won't be any annoucements just yet, given the high price for oil per barrell. Will be interesting though to see what happens.

As regards the pax that ended up in Turkey instead of Lanzarote, in my opinion I reckon that there's fault on both sides, one with check-in and the other with, dare I say it, stupid people who don't check their boarding cards or check the departure screens in departures, which would clearly state which gate their flight would be departing from......me thinks a bit of a Homer Simpson moment.......DOH:ugh:

Couldn't they do Manchester/ABZ or Liverpool/ABZ.
I don't understand why , say , Highland Airways trial it, a small plane to start, then see what happens after several weeks.
Every other pax I dealt with, for example, was from Aberdeen, Inverness, Dounreay, The Outer Hebradies, Aviemore etc etc.
They had all come down to see Bruce Springsteen, just an example of the sort of leisure traveller that visits Cardiff.
Most had driven all night, had long train journeys, slept in car etc, to get to EDI, GLA. for a flight to CWL.
Nearly all said they will come back again for a break, and were impressed with Cardiff/Wales/The Vale of Glamorgan.

Is the survey only for business travellers?

Many moons ago BRAL used to run a CWL - CDG -CWL-BHD-ABZ - BHD - CWL - CDG - CWL as a days flying. You could buy tickets from ABZ to CDG if you wanted to and some people with a lot of time on their hands actually did ! What it did do was provide routes from three airports that were supported by pax from the others. Worked really well and made money where direct services may have been commercially marginal. Surprised Fly Be didn't extend to ABZ.

Routing via MAN / LPL / LBA to ABZ would seem logical, but then you are splitting loads.

this is not economical especially on an 18 seater like Highland. Also they are not likely to consider such a route without it being funded. If you look at their work, nearly all is paid for up front by Government work or contract work to large companies.

CWL - ABZ is probably only going to be worth 1 flight a day route to start. If you do MAN or LPL, you need a second daily option to get passengers on those sectors. This adds too much financial risk. At the end of the day all us airlines are about ensuring we stay alive and have the lowest financial risks for the next Winter especially.

re Malta slots, we noted that this company has slots at a number of airports for this Summer but most were given back. I suspect you are only seeing a slot position on CWL - MLA and not what is going to operate in September.

I have a large amount of sympathy for the pax on this.

How do you expect people who probably only travel once or twice a year and work in a different industry to know where Bodrum or Arrecife are.

If you turn up at a check in desk and hand over details which say you are booked to Lanzerote, you don't know what the name of the city or airport is Lanzerote. All you know is you are booked to go somewhere warm sunny and fun with your family called Lanzerote.

You expect to be sent to where you are booked. This is part of your contract with the tour operator. You also expect your check-in agent who is dealing with you to be looking at your names or booking to double check it is all correct and that you are indeed on the flight manifest.

Either something went horribly wrong with the booking at the tour operator or travel agency which impacted on manifests or the check-in agent stuffed up. Don't blame the pax.

remember, pax are the people who keep most of us in work!

perhaps check-in staff could pleasently advise their customers (the pax) that instead of have a nice trip, wording like: "please look at your details on the boarding cards I am giving you. They are for you flights to Bodrum in Turkey."

They've set the "Airport Information" page as the home page. I think this is because the booking engine on the actual home page doesn't work at the moment.

I my feeling is that ABZ is a route that is definetly being considered at flybe and think that it would probably work better with CWL-MAN-ABZ, The other way this may work is to make GLA a direct service (same as they did with the BHD), and make the route an ABZ-CWL-CDG-CWL-ABZ.

When Flybe to have a base at CWL and become the largest carrier at the airpoirt by 2011 as planned we shall hopefully see more domestic routes along with a few German ones.

Good that they've done a survey and I'd love to see direct flights to these locations. However, have a look at destination No. 4 - BRU, we all know the history of the attempts at a CWL-BRU service. If BRU is 4th then it makes me worry what chance there is of No.'s 5-10 being sustainable (unless they are popular for city breaks).

ABZ - I can see that working as another domestic route
FRA - Could work well so long as it's FRA and not HHN. FRA could work well if it's pushed as a hub like AMS.
DUS - That's a bit unexpected, could be doomed as I don't see it getting enough city break travellers to make it sustainable.

Could someone clarify who initiated the survey being discussed? Was it Jon Horne or the new MD Mr Duffy. Just interested to establish if the new guy is bringing some new ideas in or is it a legacy from JH/P.Phillips' days.

Why the constant preoccupation with Ryanair?, when they last operated out of Cardiff they offered very little and it was basically picking up slack on a Bristol route. They had an opportunity back then to do many more routes but chose not to so why on earth would they consider Cardiff now when they didn't when they were operating from the place?
Ryanair are not some great saviour a couple of posters seem to think they are.
