jet2/easy

Hello all ,
Can anyone shed any light on the rumour of easy taking over Jet2?
The industry is always full of rumours , however I have heard from relatively credible individuals that easy have made 2 offers to Jet2 within the last 6 months .

GrahamK 4th December 2005 11:20

Wouldn't easy be making the offers to buy Jet2 to Channel Express/The Dart Group?

Jet2LBA 4th December 2005 11:39

An employee of easyJet first told me the same rumour at least 6 months ago, but nothing has materialised (and personally hope it never will).

Until I see or hear something more official then I'll not take too much notice just yet.

Why would we want to buy some clapped out old -300's? We can't shift our own -300 so we definitely don't want more....

Oshkosh George 4th December 2005 13:54

What do you mean by 'can't shift your own'? They're all leased,so what's the problem?

cartmanfly 4th December 2005 15:40

But the freight door could come in useful during the boarding scrum!. Have to agree with RB on this one. We have 300's that we can't shift (god know's why!) so another bunch of retrojet's would hardly appeal. I wouldn't imagine the route structure would be much use to us either as most of it is covered already from other bases. We could use some extra managers though as we never seem to have enough of those or perhaps a few more non executive directors :hmm:

Easyjet takeover

Without creating an argument. I have to disagree with the majority of your statements. Personally I feel this proposed takeover will never happen. Jet2 are a thriving airline who provide a great service to many of the gaps Easyjet miss out. In consideration I do agree with the view that Jet2's aircraft are old. But hay, an airline has to start somewhere? From the statistics Jet2 are a multi award winning airline having the best punctuality at the over populated Amsterdam Schiphol airport. Jet2 have been a godsend to LBA (EGNM) and's network is constantly increasing.

LONG LIVE JET2 !!!

Little Blue 4th December 2005 18:14

Hey Cartmanfly....
You reckon that you can't shift yr old 300's......trust me, you have.
They're now sat painted and proud and flying(!?) for baby....and there's still more of em to come..........rotten sods !
:uhoh:

Smythy (or evileyes)..whatever you want to call yourself.

Get real. If easy were to base a couple of Jets at LBA and fly the same routes, you would be gone within the year.

jet2impress 5th December 2005 07:30

Think easy would need to base more than a couple of ac at LBA to finish off Jet2. With 9 737's and 1 757 based in lba (2nd 757 arrives 9th December) think you could say they have a bit of a monopoly at LBA. Also with expansion at NCL, it shows that Jet2 are not scared of a bit of competition.

HH6702 5th December 2005 10:27

Jet2 at NCL

i hope they will be as big as easyjet at newcastle in a few years

Nakata77 5th December 2005 10:35

Jet2 does have a slightly more 'quality' service especially the staff on the ground and the extra legroom options... also unique is the 757 to Canaries. I doubt easyJet would want to take over any of that. It complicates their business model.

However it would be ideal for this reason:easy have soooo many aircraft coming, to take an airline over (with complimentary routes) would be perfect - they then have a good reason to deploy new A319's - a back up option if new routes are scarce.

Bokkenrijder 5th December 2005 14:18

Of course not! I´m sure EZY can somehow shoehorn it into their ´unique´ Orange "low cost" model! All it needs is a bit of grease in the form of lucrative share options, et voila: a new orange concept is borne! :yuk:

If this was so, why bother trying to buy Jet2 out, it must be cheaper to make them go bust if the above quote was true. Jet2 must have someone worried at the orange airline, to put such a romour about.

Personaly I think, now that Jet2 are the biggest low cost opperator in the north of England, Easyjet must now be wondering what they did wrong, and were to go next. ( can't be easy always looking over ones sholder ) :ugh:

Dragon777 5th December 2005 19:56

I saw that Jet2 announced BFS-PSA today.
Pisa is an interesting new route for Belfast, but I am not sure if is there enough of a market, though.

Does anybody know whether Jet2 is expanding its fleet in the next 12 months? Some of their 733s seem to be quite old and must be guzzling fuel; are any of them being phased out?

neidin 5th December 2005 21:48

I think BFS - PSA will do real well. It will pull traffic from North Dublin and the commuter belt up the East coast of Ireland who love to use Belfast rather than that kip in Dublin.

JET2 and Easy both are likely to fall into Icelandic hands over the next 12 months. The real money behind Jet2 is Russian money routed through Iceland. Check it out in depth. Ask how many trips some of the Jet2 people make to Iceland.

Icelandic interests backed by Russian cash are buying UK cash businesses and banks. Retail, banks and airlines. All great cash businesses.

Nakata77 6th December 2005 08:32

i'd certainly like to know your source cos philip meeson and ian doubtfire certainly dont have connections to russia/iceland...

i agree with REDMECH, easyJet are concerned they aint got room for their up and coming fleet of 200 A319's and Jet2 have grown pretty fast - unpredictably... especially at Manchester where EZY wants a base. (yes even though they operate from LPL too)

neidin 6th December 2005 09:55

They do have connections to Iceland. Check it out.

fx-85ms 6th December 2005 10:54

Icelandic interests in Jet2 seem to me more like conspiracy theories, PM does not have any intension of selling as far as I know. As regards easyJet it has been previously mentioned that there are strong Icelandic interests.
Just coming back to the Jet2 fleet, are there any plans to add additinal aircraft and if so any indications of where that would be?(current or new bases)

redmech 6th December 2005 12:32

As far as new aircraft coming to jet2, I think they will replace the Icelandic aircraft ** with there own in the next 12 months and the 757's would then be the only increase to the fleet size. But you never know what might happen with a company exspanding as quick as Jet2.

**(could be the Icelandic intrest, as the company we have leased aircraft off the company for a while now, and was taken over by Air Adlanta not to long ago. Not to sure of any conections to the east side of europe? )
