Gaz
You also seem to be missing the main point. I'm not really interested in spotter information. (Don't mean that to sound offending.) My point is about the operation of a B757/767 from an airport such as GLA and EDI to the US.

Gaz and myself were just correcting information which was fundamentally incorrect and should merely have been left as accepted. Although far from rare in this forum- accuracy is paramount.

Er, nope, American also used DC10's to ORD and BA also used L1011's and 767's to JFK.

Looks like GSM are ready to release their codeshare partner(s) name shortly. The YYZ flights from MAN now state that the flights will be operated by flyglobespan or their code-share partner (s). Maybe more than one codeshare partner?

Fair enough. Forgot about the BA B757.

Globespan Manchester to Cape Town

Is this operating direct or with a stop? Thought this would be at the limit of a 767. If direct, is it a 3 or 4 flight crew operation.

Eff Oh 13th July 2006 16:10

Direct, 3 crew.

rumair999 13th July 2006 16:36

Also Excel are planned to operate as well , is this still going ahead

tspark 13th July 2006 20:29

Cheers eff oh ! Nationwide of South Africa still run a 767 to Gatwick among other places forgot about them !

Believe XLA were planning a crew/fuel stop probably in NBO. MAN-CPT is a good hour and a bit longer than LGW to JNB with no doubt more seats that Nationwide have, its got to be marginal on a 763. Must be 11h30 airborne. Its 11 in a 744 from LHR.

Will easily make it. TOM operate full loads to MLE & CUN which can be over 12 hours. We also carry cargo on these routes and operate at the hottest part of the day. Can someone enlighten me, does operational performance go down the hotter or colder the temperature? Also operated an OAK back in the winter with cruise pax which was over 12 hours.

Transat A.T. Inc. acquires British tour operator Canadian Affair

Transat has signed an agreement that will lead to Transat acquiring all of the shares of British tour operator The Airline Seat Company (TASC), which operates under the Canadian Affair brand, for ₤20.4 million in cash (approximately C$42.8 million). Closing is expected to take place at the end of this month.

Transat, which already sells a significant number of seats between Canada and the U.K., thus becomes a tour operator in Canada's largest tourism market in Europe. This acquisition squares perfectly with the strategic plan we adopted in 2005 that states our intention to expand the scope of Transat as an outgoing tour operator in Europe, building on our already significant position in France.

In addition, TASC is very strong on direct sales to the consumer, which represent the fastest growing market segment in the U.K. This considerably enhances the strategic value of this acquisition by reinforcing the full-fledged multi-channel distribution system we are building in the U.K. More than 80% of TASC's sales are direct to the consumer, of which more than 50% are made online.

The sale to Transat represents the next stage in TASC's long-term growth strategy and provides substantial synergies between the two companies. Established in 1995, TASC is one of the largest British tour operators specializing on U.K.-Canada routes, with annual sales of approximately ₤75 million (approximately C$155 million). Its head office is in London and it has offices in Glasgow (Scotland) and Vancouver (Canada). TASC has more than 60 employees. It serves seven Canadian destinations. In 2004 and 2005, TASC was recognized by the Canadian Tourism Commission as the best direct sale tour operator in the U.K.

Performance improves the colder the temperature. Hot air is thinner so you need more through the engines and over the wings.

I think you may not realise quite how big Africa is, heres the distances by great circles of the flights you mention

LGW-CUN 4313
LGW-MLE 4597
LGW-OAK 4676
LGW-JNB 4862
MAN-CPT 5336

Its actually further than UK-Phuket which i believe was done with a stop.

It is much further than any of those routes, I guess you'd need around 14T more fuel than CUN thats 140pax and bags. Also There are no nearby alternates to CPT so you need Bloemfontein/Joburg or Durban diversion fuel which again is another 7 or 8T fuel over any of the others. Thats a lot of payload.
