Is Dublin airport privatized? I see Aer Rianta changed to the Dublin Airport Authority sometime last year. Just curious as I don't understand who owns and runs airports in Ireland.

Government owned Aer Rianta used to run Dublin/ Shannon and Cork. However, following recent change in policy its was decided to split Aer Rianta into three seperate bodies to control each airport as a competing industry so that the smaller airports (cork and shannon) would receive adequate investment instead of it all going to Dublin...However they still remain Government owned. As for the other airports such as Kerry, Galways, Knock, Sligo and Donegal are all privately run!!!

That's the theory,but reading the other threads suggests the Dublin management still want to tell Shannon how to do things!

The splitting of the airport authorities is proceeding in two phases. First step, last October, was the renaming of Aer Rianta to Dublin Airport Authority plc and the creation of Shannon Airport Authority plc and Cork Airport Authiority plc with new boards. Note that this meant all of Aer Riantas assets, including all three airports, still belong to the DAA for now. The next step, pending the acceptance by the government of business plans from the two new authorities, is to transfer Cork and Shannon airports to their respective new authorities. This should happen by May but for now, the management in those airports still have to get stuff signed off by DAA.
All three companies are government owned but the reorganisation clearly takes account of the current administration's ideas for privatisation.
