Headwinds

On the way over to buenos aires recently,we encountered headwinds of 98 knots i believe.what are the strongest headwinds or tailwinds you've encountered and where?

98KTs ? Just a gentle breeze !! :O :O

You will probably find the North Atlantic Jetstream one of the strongest permanent winds As you will see it was measure at over 400 mph over Scotland so we don't get too excited about breezes of less than 100kts.

Great to sit with eastbound from North America but not fun on your nose for 8 hours +.

I remember on an eastbound flight over the Atlantic seeing a tailwind of 180 mph on the moving map display, which I guess is about 156kt. I agree, anything under 100kt is pretty routine.

Have a look at http://uk.weather.com/maps/lifestyle...4hr_large.html for North Atlantic Jetstreams. If you have the patience (or broadband:ok: ) click the "show map in motion" button to see how the jetstream moves over time as well.
