Air Scotland

Don't know if it is a working name or the actual planned name but more information in today's newspapers.

The article also gives a little summary of the other new services planned to start out of Glasgow Prestwick.

Air Scotland

The Air Scotland web page is in test state at the moment but is reported to be ready for use in a couple of weeks.

Not "Air Scotia" then? :D :D :D

VIKING9 17th Nov 2002 08:44

....and they already have 2 B757's.....Mmmmmm :p

WHBM 17th Nov 2002 09:45

The "Thistle seats" sound uncomfortable! :D

If you work through the examples you find they have used some dummy Futura flights to Spain. Maybe they're just going to be a seat broker.

Mister Geezer 18th Nov 2002 09:33

They would be pioneers in their field, since no low cost airline in the west operates the 757.

All seems a bit pie in the sky to be honest! Operating an aircraft of that size on year round ops from PIK - would they be starting to dig their own grave before they have even started? Just a thought...

Findo 19th Nov 2002 10:01

Well there is low cost and low cost ...

I would expect this operation to be much like the LoCo operation already in place for next year. Basically seat only sales to the popular Spannish destinations. Summer months only would seem reasonable.

Apparently the aircraft have been leased from Greece with an announcement expected this week.

U/S President 20th Nov 2002 21:17

The Evening Times said that “Air-Scotland has been set up by the owners of the Glasgow tour operator Discount Holidays.”

Well I believe that those owners are the Globespan Group (see Globespan’s ATOL).

Therefore, is this venture in addition to the recently announced FlyGlobespan or are they somehow connected?

Mister Geezer 25th Nov 2002 11:03

The website is up and running but a lot of the pages are not finished yet. The on line booking system is still being worked on. No clues on the type of aircraft that will operate the route but it does seem to be ex PIK and they mention a PIK-BCN (Barcelona)!

Thomas Cook Airlines 25th Nov 2002 13:18

If you go to the special offers page there is a mock-up Boeing 727-200.
Isn't the new airline supposed to be using 757s?
Hoq quick can these be turned? are they economical for a no frills?

Mister Geezer 25th Nov 2002 18:37

:D Thomas Cook

They will not be using 727s..... I can imagine they asked the webmaster to put a pic of a plane on the web page concerned and he came across a 727 first!!!

GroupCaptain 26th Nov 2002 17:31

The current plan is for 757-200 operations (not 727!).

There is no association with Globespan.

Voldermort 26th Nov 2002 21:26

Air Scotland

I wouldn't read anything into the picture of the B727 as this only changed about 10 days ago from what looked like an A321:) I suppose if they change it often enough they will, sooner or later end up with a B757

Television Ads

Just seen a T.V. advert on STV. Didn't say much - just the Air-Scotland logo(Scottish flag and thistle) with the words 'Something big is about to takeoff from Scotland'. A bit like the JMC ads when they first started - A little more information was revealed each month.

AirScotland.Com

Anyone come across any information on AirScotland.Com, which, according to their advert on TV, is about to start up shortly?

Nothing on the Web.

Poor Website

They do have a very poor website at http://www.air-scotland.com but there is next to nothing there.

For a startup I would have thought they should have developed their website off-line and then put it on-line when its done. It looks very amateur. I hope they get off the gound so to speak though.

Air Scotland

Still haven`t seen the advert yet but checked out the web site again and in the "our fleet"section they now have a smart picture of a B757 along with some technical info about the a/c.They appear to be recruiting as well, looking for Capt + FO`s(B757/B767rated) Engineers,Cabin Crew, sales staff etc. There was also an article yesterday in the Evening Times saying that they had plans to fly from EDI as well as PIK so here`s hoping they take off soon:D

I have seen their intended programme from PIK and EDI. It is certainly not a full one at the moment and will have aircraft lying around doing nothing a lot of the time.

Mister Geezer 8th Dec 2002 22:33

It is not business sense to advertise the airline on TV and when you go to their website you can't make reservations because the software is not working. Their website should of been 100% up and running before they went on air at STV and Grampian with their adverts.

Also the livery could of been a lot better with very simple touches. I had visions of a very smart 757. Highland Express had a nice livery on its 747s for its time with the dark blue and white Saltire on the tail. That could be jazzed up a bit and we would have a nice looking 757!

Also that picture with the Air Scotland livery is a 757 that looks like it has PW engines. Their website claims that their fleet will have RB 211s

JetsetSid 9th Dec 2002 09:52

Hi,

Air Scotland will be run by Glasgow based tour operator Viva Espana, which has a sister brand. Viva Holidays. and a direct sell arm - Discount Holidays.

OPs to begin before April and maybe as early as February. 9 Destinations are to be offered, including Palma and the Canaries.

Rumours have it, that Air Scotland will not be the lone new entrant next year.

Sincerely,

Sid
