Teesside Airport Owners
 

Last night Look North Newcastle we heard about who the new part owners of teesside might be....BAA, Manchester Airports, TBI or another airport owner like Copenhagen who part own Newcastle.
I was just thinking about that and can only see TBI being good for the aircraft....as im sure you know TBI own CWL, BFS and LTN..all low cost carrier airports.hopefully that will lead to more at MME
Looking at BAA they are big on high costs and the chances of them picking up Teesside are slim
Manchester Airports already own Humberside and I have to question what have they done there....arent Ryanair a bit miffed of with them at the moment?

I think its more likely that a foriegn group or a consortium of investors will take the stake in the airport. Teesside needs a lot of investment in infrastructure (light rail link for starts), and really stands more chance if it markets itself as a frieght hub.

Manchester PLC also own EMA and BOH and look what they've done there! BOH will see PAX nos rise from 266,000 in 2001 to 1.1million in 2003, thanks to Ryanair expanding and Buzz basing 2 aircraft from March and a 3rd from October. EMA has also done well since the take over with BMIbaby basing there plus others.....:D

From what I can remember of my last visit to Teesside there is the Darlington to the coast rail link which runs less than a mile away from the airport itself....surely a little adjustment there would increase accessability because that is one of the problems that the airport has...its not well sign posted....and im not the only one saying that

Ironic, cos Norwich is at exactly the same stage, along with the same names in the hat as possible purchasers, with the additional rumour that Amsterdam are looking at purchasing NWI (to store their excess piles of edam cheese :p ).

I suppose the only logical conclusion is that Teesside will buy a controlling interest in Norwich, and Norwich will do the same at Teesside.
Each airport could then be run a a job share basis, with a spare idiot swap every 6 months......... :p :rolleyes: :p

It has emerged today that the 'Preferred Partner' for Teesside Airport is not any of the companies mentioned above such as BAA, Manchester Airport PLC or TBI.

It will be Liverpool Airports owner Peel Holdings under its Peel Airports division.

They hope to conclude the agreement by the end of March 2003.

Peel seem to have beaten a few big names in securing this, it will give them Teesside in the Northeast, Liverpool John Lennon in the northwest and also Finningley in Yorkshire when it gets its planning approval supposedly this month or next. An airport for each region in the north of England. Should mean cheaper rates for airlines and more flying.:)

Acquiring both Teeside and Finnigley could be interesting. Finnigley has the potential infrastuctrure in terms of runway, geography and access to East Coast mainline to provide a hub service for much of the North. Might oversahdow any development at Teeside, and further afield!

Er, could it be that Peel are putting all their eggs into the big Finningley basket? They bought Sheffield Aerodrome (sorry, I mean International Airport) and basically shut it down - a real shame as pax no.s were excellent to all destinations but Sept 11 + BA Future Spit and Polish have finished it off, combined with runway purpose-built 1 metre short of threshold for larger planes. Teesside you have been warned.
