Coaches vs Trains between Luton / Stansted and London

Currently National Express, Greenline and other companies run coaches at high frequency between various places in London and Luton and Stansted airports. They are helped by the relatively high cost of one-way train fares - on many routes a one-way train fare costs just £1 less than a return. As many fly in/out of different London airports or stay for more than a day or even a month, the existing rail ticket regulation does not make train fares cheap for air travellers.

It seems train fares in the UK will change over the next 2 years, so a single is half the price of a return. Will this push LTN/STN pax away from the coach and towards the train significantly ? Would one expect to see a decline in coach frequency between London and LTN/STN long term ? Or will coach firms just reduce their fares ?

Apologies for being London-centric, but I can't think of many other UK airports with high levels of expensive rail *and* coach service from their nearest primary city

Single fares structures on longer sectors already exist with the like of Avanti LNER and even East Midlands indeed these operators operate variable single ticket pricing just as the flexible fare airlines do
It vacuous nonsense to be honest
The regulated prices are what’s about to change

I see and expect no impact of what are effectively period returns as these were scrapped years ago
You already buy and combine two singles today
