Mr Hinkles probably remembers the time when Flybe attempted to take on Loganair on the Aberdeen to Sumburgh route using a leased Embraer 175. The islanders were pleased to have their shiny jet for a short time, but they soon realised that the service was little more than a gimmick to try and damage the incumbent and reliability soon became a major issue. Flybe didn't understand that you cannot roster a jet for 10 sectors a day round wild windy foggy islands without engineering support and not expect problems. 1-0 to Loganair in that battle but both ended up financially damaged. There will always be a place for smaller operators with more appropriate equipment and the flexibility to adjust and get people moving in and around the bad weather. Easy are impressive but is it appropriate to let them continue to try to stamp on the small regional operators when they would not be able to replace those thin route, regular lifeline services with A320's should they succeed in their quest for global domination.

Flight Radar suggests both Avantiair Dash 8s will be in operation tomorrow - one positioned in tonight with the other due from Birmingham in the morning.
Also looks like the Jump Air ATR 72-500 is due in tomorrow afternoon before it starts with Aurigny later this week. |
Which one ? 'UA or 'UP ?
Is this going to be one of the long lease ATRs that was talked about ? Anyway, similar age as COBO and VZON. |
LY-JUP is currently positioning MGL-GCI, apparently in an all-white scheme. LY-JUA appears to be based in the Caribbean at present. So LY-JUP is the one.

I believe this one is effectively replacing the full time Avanti Dash 8, as they were due to finish end of April. However, with Luxwing still on the ground, (and according to the Guernsey Press - so don't know how accurate it is) G-ORAI not due back until mid-May and the first leased ATR not due until July now - who knows. |
So where will the long-lease ATRs come from ? Any news on that and will they be older ATR 72-500s or 600s ?

600s, only clues I have seen online is Jethro's is suggesting that they were previously registered in Columbia, so I am wondering if they are former Avianca Express aircraft, which would make them about 10 years old and is where the most recent Loganair arrivals have come |

Has the Avantair lease ended as I note there has been no aircraft seen at GCI for a few days ?
Flights continue to run late with the first GCI-SOU delayed by 2 hours this morning - interestingly this this is being operated by the Embraer (will it ever be withdrawn from service). |
I also noticed 1 of the Dorniers was used to/from EMA the other day, also noticed flight time was very similar to the usual ATR

Originally the Avantiair lease was up until the end of April when the Jump Air ATR came in, so I presume they stayed a little longer to help cover the Luxwing.
According to what I read last week (can't remember which of the local news outlets), the Embraer is limited on how long it can fly between now and when she goes due to needing maintenance which is why despite delays/ cancellations she isn't being used much and G-ORAI was due back by 10 May. |
According to todays Guernsey Press Aurigny are looking at leasing aircraft from South African airline Cem Air - subject to the relevant approvals.

Looking at the Cem Air fleet, I imagine it would be more Dash 8-400s.
As with the Avantiair and Luxwing aircraft, these would be ex-Flybe aircraft. |
Jethro's is reporting it as ZS-DHD, ex G-JECH with Flybe.
