Palma is probably Teesside locals realising they can fly from nearer home. I can also say a friend priced Edinburgh cheaper for Alicante for a family of five.

If it was all of those flying from MME rather than NCL, that would be a third of the reduction.

Probably the long standing price effect of the difference in school Summer holiday timings.

Interesting to see TK have added NCL to 'where we fly from' Unfortunately the flights are not loaded at the moment.

United Kingdom flight details

Turkish Airlines flies to five different locations in United Kingdom: Edinburgh, Birmingham, London (two different airports), Manchester and Newcastle.

London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is regarded as the busiest airport serving in United Kingdom with the number of 76 million passengers per year. The second busiest airport is Gatwick Airport (LGW) which is also in London, serving to 43 million passengers each year. Manchester Airport (MAN) reaches the annual passenger number of 23 million as the third busiest airport countrywide.

Direct flights by Turkish Airlines from Istanbul Airport (IST) take four to four and a half hours in average. The points of destination vary as Birmingham Airport (BHX), London Gatwick Airport (LGW), London Heathrow Airport (LHR), Manchester Airport (MAN) and Newcastle International Airport (NCL).

Lets hope this comes to fruition.

That bit about Newcastle has been on their website for quite a while for some reason...

Since at least September 2021

Could this be either a reference to the Sun Express flights, or maybe a codeshare? I know they're part of Star Alliance, so do they share on Lufty's FRA-NCL route?

TK would surely eat significantly into EK transfer numbers (and maybe further erode BA) Can’t see it generating huge amounts extra new inbound or point to point.
Does TK offer relevant new eastbound transfer destinations for an NCL travelling public… Kabul, Tehran anyone?

Which is the same arguement put forward when EK started, etc etc

TK

This will happen and by the sounds of it in time for next summers peak.

if it is to compete with EK, KLM etc I would expect to see the route at least 5 x weekly using 737/320’s etc

Presumably the references to Kabul and Tehran were an attempt to be funny, but EK do serve Kabul. TK serve many places in the former Soviet Union and Africa which aren't covered by EK

A lot of people are going to Istanbul for short breaks these days

Plus from a business point of view - they link into all sorts of places you can't easily get to from the main UK and European airports

People from Afghanistan and Iran living in the UK are more numous than one might initially guess. They tend to keep a low profile because their countries are not popular amongst many born in the UK... but they also want to travel to see family
Similiar story for many other groups of people born in or with strong ties to other countries in Asia and Africa... again keep a low profile but they most definitely exist in the UK

Jamesair1 3rd Nov 2022 14:46

I can't imagine many Afghans wanting to visit their relatives....they might never get out again. Iranians do visit relatives back home. Istanbul is a popular tourist destination itself (also with cruises starting and ending there)..there are also many Turks living in the UK who would use the service to visit relatives back home.

Asturias56 4th Nov 2022 09:48

I know some people who use Turkish for flights into the Sub-continent on business - they say it s a much pleasanter experience than going direct or via the Gulf

Jamesair1 7th Nov 2022 15:55

TURKISH AIRLINES......NCL is now in the booking engine but no start date available yet.

GAXLN 9th Nov 2022 00:19

But then so is BRS and GLA

Jamesair1 12th Nov 2022 07:58

Does anyone know if the new Flybe flights are attracting many pax?

Enough to fill a daily year round 738 and have zero impact on EK?

Why just EK, they would be competing with BA, KL, LH and AF as well. And this is exactly the same arguement when EK came in, how they would undermine the other hub operators. They are all big boys, sure they can stand a bit of competititon

GrahamK 12th Nov 2022 11:19

A lot of negativity from the usual suspects.
