Li-ion powered handheld VHF through security MAN and EDI

Sorry for cross-posting! Hoping for some inside information/advice.

I am flying out of EDI on Flybe in a couple of days. After that I am flying out of MAN with KLM to AMS and then on and out of Europe.

I want to hand carry a handheld, re-chargeable, aviation, VHF transceiver. I need to hand carry it out of EDI because I will have hand luggage only, and out of MAN because I want to claim a VAT refund on it. Any idea how security will react to it? In theory I could cause total mayhem with it! But I wonder if security will know or care and will distinguish it from any random radio ?

Why not remove and dispose of the Li-ion battery, and then just purchase a replacement at your destination. I would guess the LI-ion battery might be a cause of concern rather than the receiver itself.

Most laptops have similar batteries, it shouldn't be an issue.
I've never had a major issue with my own, a few questions now and again, most recently at T5 when the security man spotted it in my tray, placed there so it wasn't masked by the contents of my bag, and triumphantly held it up for his supervisor to make a call decrying "Aha what's this?". Supervisor was fine was fine, all I had to do was switch it on. 99% of the time no eyelids are batted as all sorts of radios go through daily , often with staff.

Deal with this type of stuff everyday at work. Google - IATA DG Regulations 60th Edition Table 2.3A. This tells you what a passenger can take , cabin or hold , whether operator approval required or a no go . It depends on the type of battery and the Watt Hour Rating. It also depends if packed in , or with equipment as a spare. You can only take a certain number. Some batteries/products are supposed to travel at around 30% charge. The Security should want to see it switched on and off , If you can print out the Table 2.3A and take it with you that might help. Whether the security folk accept it is "Russian Roulette" , same with the carrier. I've taken a scanner before but it runs on rechargeable Lithium Batteries or equivalent basic AA ( AA easier especially if in original un-opened packaging). My camera has Lithum's and I carry spare batteries and have never been stopped. Good luck
