Great Dane Airlines
No, this isn’t a joke. New Danish start-up Great Dane Airlines plans to fly some oddly familiar routes with 2 EMB-195’s. Scheduled Flights AAL-EDI AAL-DUB AAL-NCE Charter Flights AAL-PMI AAL-RHO AAL-CHQ BLL-PMI BLL-RHO BLL-CHQ BLL-VAR CPH-PMI CPH-RHO CPH-CHQ CPH-VAR Those charter flights look very similar to those of Primera Air do they not? Is this perhaps the travel groups second attempt? check it out. Greatdaneairlines.dk |
According to this link, they’re operating for Bravo Tours (one of the Primera Travel Group companies) So it could well be Primera mk.2 https://www.check-in.dk/danmark-har-...yt-flyselskab/ |
Sounds like a big dog's breakfast.
They could be the dogs

All scheduled flights on 21 and 24 June seem to be sold out - but seats available at low-ish fares from 25 June. Perhaps a last minute hitch with getting hold of an aircraft and it being delayed by a few days ?
The first aircraft at least has already been painted.

Stobart Air E195 on lease to Great Dane.
Looks smart, but it needs a picture of a Great Dane on the tailfin.
"Great Dane Airlines secures AOC 18 hours before first flight " Mmm, doesn't inspire confidence? |
Not abnormal. To secure AOC last thing you do is a simulated revenue flight normally with staff as pax. Quite common for this to be at the last minute particularly when you’re a start up and don’t want to pay aircraft leases for longer than necessary. |
The leased aircraft, E195 EI-GGC, hasn't flown for at least 7 days according to FR24 so no recent proving flights by the look of it, although FR24 isn't infallible of course.
That's because it's been reregistered as OY-GDA :)
Ah, they would explain it! Good luck to them anyway.
Now that the absolute peak months of summer demand are over, does anyone know how Great Dane have been doing ?
I note that they are not offering scheduled flights on their website from Aalborg to Dublin or Nice beyond mid September or from Aalborg to Edinburgh beyond early October - it sounds like the airline is aware that leisure demand on these routes outside summer would likely be weak. |
ooft! that doesn't sound promising at such an early stage. So perhaps they'll stick to charter-esque leisure |
Maybe they might need some help from Sandy Toksvig!!!
I've no idea but it could be that they leased their aircraft short term and don't plan any winter activity.
The have some limited winter activity. So not lease related. |
From what I gather, they are in the market for specialist tour operators also outside Denmark. For example, they operated a weekly service for four weeks from CGN to GRX this August/September.
What are the odds of these peak summer seasonal schedules returning next year? |
Great Dane airlines.
Just heard that Great Dane airlines, have just ceased operations, due to COVID and the effect it’s had on the aviation industrySuch a shame as those colleagues of mine who had dealings with them, said they were extremely professional outfit to work for.
As well as there own charter network, they also set leased their aircraft to operators and were one of the first to supply both aircraft and crew to Bamboo airways in Vietnam, whilst they recruited their own crew and whilst awaiting delivery of their own aircraft. https://nordjyske.dk/nyheder/nordjyl...b-e8f0b24cb3c1 |
Declared bankrupt as of Monday 11-Oct-2021
Employees laid off |
That's really sad indeed. They have a few aircraft parked up at my local Norwich airport uk, been there for many months.
I had presumed they had 'gone busto' ages ago. Was a weird model and was never going to work, covid or not,
Great Dane in the doghouse. :(
Another billionaire who is now a millionaire...
Seemed a very niche airline indeed.
Didn’t some of BE E195’s go to them?
It’s not really a new idea. They quickly gave up on the limited schedule flights and went for operating for others. Tour agencies and they did some work for Bamboo in Vietnam for a while.
Just obviously the tour operator work dried up last year and hasn’t fully recovered probably didn’t help them. They probably should have tried to get more in to private charters but Denmark already has Sun Air for that side of things. |

You dont gamble with your own money... |
I thought their aircraft had been flying all October and are now parked up in Billund and Copenhagen?
I think Eigild Bodker Christensen probably did actually, through his company SEBC II ApS.
I've advised a number of potential start-ups over the years and in a number of cases the Principal (owner) of the business was going to invest his own money. I cannot remember any case where I recommended that he do so! |
