Scadinavian Mountains Airport

New airport being built on the Norway/Sweden border to host ski-centric leisure flights, and due to open in December 2019
Has anyone heard of who might fly to this airport ? From the website it looks like the major building works are substantially complete and it's now well into the fitting-out stages so being ready to handle passengers in December 2019 certainly seems possible. I'm guessing that one or more of the TUI airlines is a strong candidate but nothing appears to be on sale via the usual travel agencies. Was thinking that either now or fairly soon, ski holidays for winter 2019/2020 will start to go on sale.

Must admit, it's the first I've heard of this. First impressions:
The website looks short on detail and a bit amateurish. Should have run the English language bit past a native speaker.
This is just a pet hate of mine, but I don't like the name 'Scandinavian Mountains Airport' as it's in English.
It'll be interesting to see how flights will be marketed. While probably nobody outside Dalarna knows where Salen is, 'Scandinavian Mountains Airport could be anywhere between Stavanger and the Finnish / Russian border!

As a Brit in Sweden I’ve had an interest in this airport. Salen is well known in Sweden. I’d expect BRA will operate there. I heard that EasyJet were considered too. They operated a Are-Gatwick route this winter so could be possible.

Interesting, I am UK based but go to Sweden twice a month. I guess this airport is mainly geared around attracting the weekend ski break market from the Nordic cities (and I guess this will give BRA some usage for their planes during the winter weekends).

Not sure it is going to be the next big destination in terms of ski traffic from the UK or Holland. Sweden is generally a lot colder and more expensive than the Alps during the ski season.

BRA has announced it will launch flights to Scandinavian Mountains Airport.

Stockholm / Bromma, Gothenburg, Malmö, Ängelholm and Växjö - services will be operated over the winter season (commencing 22nd December) using ATR72.

Where will all the ski equipment go in an ATR-72?

SAS to run winter ski routes to Copenhagen, Aalborg, and (this really surprised me) Heathrow from December 2019. The Heathrow route will be Saturdays only. Really quite surprised that the London route isn't maybe TUI or Thomas Cook instead...

Just had a look on the SAS website and couldn't find the flights. As I mentioned earlier this year, I'll be interested to see what name they use for the airport...

Booked on this in January.
Seems the SAS website/booking confirmation thinks I’m flying to Scranton, Pennsylvania though*:D

Will this be operated by SAS Ireland, seeing as the departure time is early morning? Booking says Scandinavian Airlines so assuming that’s SAS Mainline.

virginblue 13th Aug 2019 16:31

Flights are, according to the press release, on A320neos, so that does not rule out SAS Ireland or SAS proper.

SAS are communicating to pax that flights from London in late Dec / early Jan will go to Oslo followed by a bus transfer due to "infrastructure problems" at Salen-Trysil / Scandinavia Mountains airport

Fares seem healthy - about 200 pounds for a one-way flight in Jan, dropping to 150 pounds for booking further in advance

Is this simply a case of the airport not being ready for non-Schengen pax arrivals or there are likely to be too many pax in the building at peak times, or is it something else entirely ?

I understand they still need to complete some formalities to allow non-schengen pax in. Hopefully shouldn’t take too long. A bus from Oslo isn’t great.
