bmibaby - EMA Axes

bmibaby have scrapped East Midlands to both Copenhagen and Lyon this winter. After only selling the route for two months its is now no longer selling either routes.

This could be due to a number of reasons:

1. Poor sales

2. Boeing 737-300s are too big capacity for the two routes.

3. They may be transferred to bmi reional for their winter 2002/3 programme on an Embraer 145.

4. The Boeing 737s based at EMA will be needed to do 'Ws' to Cardiff (CWL) for some of their flights.

Does any bmi employee no really why these routes have been scrapped?

Cheers.

The new plans that bmi have revealed today is that they expect 9 737s to be based at EMA by March, with all existing bmi EMA routes to be transferred over to bmibaby.

Complete route network annoncement for bmibaby is 1st August.

EMA now going to be no frills airport.
No full service carriers so Brum will be happy.

So if baby will be replacing regional on all of those EMA routes with their own 737s, the F70s sold to KLM cityhopper and the F100s withdrawn from use, surely that still leaves a few ERJs.

I understand that they will be used elsewhere (MAN, LBA?) to boost frequencies, but regional will have a difficult time trying to find enough extra sectors to fly for even, what, two or three of the little embraers?

They have only recently added extra frequencies on the MAN and LBA to Scotland routes, plus the additional LBA to Brussels and Cork operations. Is there really anywhere they can place the additonal frequencies?

I believe the management at LBA have a deal signed with bmi regarding discounted landing fees in return for route development. Specific targets are feeders into the Star Alliance hubs at FRA and CPH. They are also after DUS and MUC.

Slots of course will be a major obstacle, even if crew and Embraers are made available from East Mids.
