Seeking to speak to Ryanair pilots

Hi I hope you don't mind me coming on this - I'll be upfront, I'm a journalist on The Guardian but also a very frequent flyer - I plane commute London-Dublin every week. We're keen to speak to Ryanair pilots; my email is [email protected] if you'd like to share your thoughts, anonymously if you wish.

I hope you choose your airline carefully and don't support scumair with your business.

GuardianJournalist 10th Aug 2018 12:38

I'm like most frequent flyers - I look at the route, the relative prices, the service from the airline, etc, and go from there. Obviously on some routes there's not much choice

Don't trust journalists - particularly Guardian journalists.

inOban 10th Aug 2018 20:15

Rather a Guardian one than most other so-called newspapers

I would trust a Guardian journalist more than a confirmed booking with Ryanair at the moment.

Why don't you go and talk with the pilots directly on the various picket lines, especially in Dublin. You're fishing mate, but I don't think your rods long enough.

You're probably better to look at some more Irish frequented websites. A website like PPRuNe is very international, and then very British.

Does this even make sense? Are you sure you don't work for the Mail Online?!

You could always email him ([email protected]) and ask.

Any Ryanair pilots should forward this request onto Ialpa and let them deal with his questions. You are more than likely prohibited from speaking with the media as part of your employment contracts and risk dismissal. Even if there is no provision in your contracts for this you risk being dismissed and you had better have big pockets if you want to fight them through the courts.

TURIN 12th Aug 2018 12:05

Patrick, may be you should write a story on why no one trusts the press any more?

inOban 12th Aug 2018 16:28

If people did not speak to journalists off the record and unattributably then the media would consist entirely of press releases, instead of mainly such. It's why we have laws protecting whistleblowers.

Patrick Collinson is money editor of the Guardian and the newspaper's personal finance editor

IALPA have backed thenselves into a corner and cannot get out of it. These mediation talks will benefit Ryanair, the person is experienced in dealing with IALPA and they will end up accepting a quick decision.

They wont go for an all out strike and thats the only card they have left to cause disruption. Germans will be top of the queue for FR to resolve.
