BA website does exactly the same thing Express.

As a regular user of both, yes it's frustrating.

TartinTon 13th Apr 2019 14:43

Both use the Amadeus host system. Unfortunately it's built on 1960's technology which means it can only do one thing at a time!

Wonder if flybe are about to get 3 slot pairs at LHR via EY ?

would seem logical as BE could probably add domestic capacity fairly quickly ?

STN Ramp Rat 14th Apr 2019 17:31

with the value of the slots someone could be paid to fly an empty aircraft on them for a while !!! seriously though I would expect them to be traded on fairly quickly as EY don't need them

(Contrast bmi regional and its long-running marketing campaign based on being “on time, time and time again.” There’s more money in being late it seems...)

Ryanair has excellent punctuality and reliability, even with its recent operational SNAFUs.

Flybe is a last-resort carrier and the fact it has a monopoly in most places makes it even harder to understand how it has lost money.

Seriously, did you read my post?
It’s based on Flight Global award for most punctual U.K. airline, Which report and my own experience of 60 flights PER YEAR over the last 10 years.
What’s your source?

In a previous life I helped with a few techy problems Cityjet had with their comms. She got involved, and I could never understand why a CEO of a company would get involved with something like this, something so far down the foodchain.
Surely she had better things to do ?

Well there is a likely answer to your question but in 2019 you would not be allowed to say it. Suffice to say Connect will probably have their hands tied when it comes to reviewing her position (see my previous post for evidence). Perhaps we can look forward to her sacking more staff who question her, and implementing a 5th livery for their aircraft.......

How do they make money? I am travelling from Manchester to Knock at the end of the month and the round trip is just £50. I don't have the exact figure in front of me now but the outbound flight is about £33 and the return around £17! This compares extremely well with the hundreds of pounds a ferry trip via Dublin would cost.

If it's done properly then it's called Revenue Management....the same way Ryan "make money" with 9.99 loss leaders

D&O insurers will be asking same questions.

What’s going to happen to Flybe Embraer’s now? Are Stobart going to take them on?

KelvinD 19th Apr 2019 07:18

Further to my post re Flybe fare to Knock, I have now downloaded and printed the ticket details etc.
It turns out the "Base Fare" is £6.00! The balance, £43.29, is made up of "Taxes & Fees".
And that £6.00 "Base Fare" is fare for a round trip, so £3.00 each way. I do understand the 'loss leader' concept but £3.00?

cornishsimon 19th Apr 2019 07:35

To be fair flybe and any airline won’t make money on advanced purchase hand baggage fares. The money on commuter routes will come from last minute sales along with add ons, baggage, onboard sales etc

UK APD is terrible. If the Govt cuts it, domestic carriers will likely reduce the prices a fraction, and pocket the rest. Which wouldn't be a bad thing.

Alteagod 20th Apr 2019 18:32

Anyway any news updates timeline info gossip on the rebrand to Virgin whatever?

VickersVicount 20th Apr 2019 21:24

maybe waiting for all the negative 'collapse' 'going bust' 'strikes' 'base closures' PR issues to settle

Alteagod 20th Apr 2019 21:30

Fair point

plane-driver 21st Apr 2019 09:42

They are carrying out a 100 day review from when they took over then will implement any changes. Wonder if they’ll decide to keep they ejets but probably too late

According to the article below, Flybe announced that all its assets and operations had been transferred to Connect Airways back on the 21st February. I think Connect Airways will already have had a lot of input when it comes to the decision to dispose of the E-jets making a change in mind when it comes is very unlikely.

Flybe completes sale to Virgin-led consortium after dramatic last-minute challenger bid led by Mesa airlines | City A.M.

It will be interesting to see what changes are planned for the W19/20 schedule especially when it comes route and frequency changes.

I am surprised that there has been no announcement when it comes to the future of the franchise agreements with Blue Island and Eastern Airways.

virginblue 21st Apr 2019 12:01

Why shouldn't T3 and SI not be allowed to continue the franchise? Virgin is the epitome of a franchised brand and if it generates income without ruining the brand, I see no reason not to continue. And my feeling is that Flybe proper is more likely to tarnish the brand than T3 (fingers crossed) or SI.

I personally think that the decision to cut the e jets was made a lot earlier than the Connect sale. Probably this time last year.
