Futura at Belfast

I have heard that Futura have signed a contract to operate 40 flights week from BFS next year. It either means a dramatic increase in traffic or replacing an existing operator???

..................or all the operators at Belfast!

Stiil, good news even if the numbers are smaller.

This is the first year that Futura havn't been in BFS..replaced by BMI to cover MYT work. Back to normal next year then.

I think 40 per week is a little high - thats near on 6 flights per day
- I dont think there is that demand for spain ex BFS next summer.
More likely to be 40 over the 26 week summer season which is
one per week plus another at peak times.

Hows about 20 in and 20 out, which would be pretty intensive use of a single based aircraft? plus perhaps a few weekly turns from Spain?

I assume if it was a based a/c then it would operate the whole program for, say, My Travel, rather than just the Spanish flights.

I'd have thought this would have generated more interest, I have heard that this is to operate all of MyTravel (holidays) flights i.e. more than just MyTravel(airline), which with a reasonable increase could mount up to 40 flights a week (40 in's and 40 out's). Word is that the contract has been signed, but I guess time will tell.

omoko joe 4th Jul 2002 12:15

this is nothing new...in the past Futura has routinely based a 737 at BFS over the summer operating with the same intensity as My travel's own airbus. It wasn't just doing Spanish rotations either. They had one in DUB too. As I said before this year the contract went to BMI who managed to undercut Futura for the work.;)

The Futura contract is for Budget Travel, part of the Thomas Cook Group. It is for 20 flights/week ex-BFS.

Best of luck to 'em, Thompson tried to penetrate the BFS market in a big way....and failed miserably.

Oh, and to tallseabird; Try dumping the stuff that drops out from under your tail somewhere else. AMM and MYT are here to stay. :D :D

The thing about rumours (this is a rumour network isn't it) is that they are not always true, some more than others, all I was trying to do was to stir up some dust and see what came out of it. I originally heard the story in connection with MYT and all I wanted was some confirmation/denials which again are not necessarily based on fact, I am very disappointed in the responses I was expecting a bandwagon to jump on the side of MYT.
