Kathmandu Airport

Anybody know if Khatmandu airport is open , had any damage ?

JW411 26th Apr 2015 10:20

Well, I have heard BBC state on several occasions that the airport is open.

Yes, its open for operation. I don't have much info on the extent of damage at the airport. But you can see many flights operating in and out of KTM here:
Flightradar24.com - Live flight tracker!

No NOTAMS on it being closed but my local newspaper asserts that it is closed.

I was watching the NOTAMS before the quake. No change.

ironbutt57 26th Apr 2015 12:36

looks like many are holding...

ManaAdaSistem 26th Apr 2015 12:40

I would not be surprised if the NOTAM service is a bit limited at the moment.
I would be equally surprised if the airport is operating as usual.

QTR652 has just landed after much holding, ETD292A is on the glide, and HDA103 took off a few minutes ago (FR24 data). Perhaps they took some time to check/fix some ground equipments (ILS?) in between.

Today, TG was performing 2 flights in (TG3199 and TG319) and out (TG3209 and TG320) of Kathmandu airport. I heard that after TG319 landed, it was an aftershock. The plane was forced to waiting at the runway before clearing to taxied to the tarmac and passengers were disembarking.

Thanks guys , just as long as aid flights etc can get in and out . Going to be a huge evac for tourists . I believe could be over 150,000 ? Pls correct me if wrong .

iflytb20 26th Apr 2015 18:48

The airport has not been damaged. Each time there is a tremor, the building is evacuated. They are shutting the airport as there is no one to man their posts during that time. Can't blame them too for being cautious.

Can't blame them too for being cautious.
This is humor right ?
Not sure it will be appreciated at its full value in the circumstances.

The runway is OK, the ATC facilites not seriouly damaged and functioning.

Going to be a huge evac for tourists
I am not sure that this is the priority of the authorities at the moment, but having a functioning airport to get the emergency aid in , is .

at the time VNKT is fully open and handling multi relief flights: a NAF DC10 from Eindhoven, a LOT B788 from Warsaw and a Titan B763 from Stansted. Later the day a GAA MD11 from Berlin-SXF and many more flights from other asian nations are expected.
