MH: Stall Warning!
|
A look at any of the travel search engines will show MAS as having the cheapest airfares on almost any route they operate. A connecting flight via KL can be half the price of the nearest competitor.
|
Well I wouldn't choose to go on Malaysian., they seem to have far too much bad luck.
For the same reason I wouldn't fly on a DC10. Too many crashes. My first choice for short/medium haul is a 757. Long haul a 747. |
Relax, VC10man - last DC10 in pax service retired recently...
|
I know and not before time! I preferred the Tristar, which has also been retired. And my favourite, the mighty VC10 has gone as well.
|
VC Man,
Perception v. Facts. Not including hijacking or fatalities due to events other than collision with terrain... The DC10 suffered 12 fatal crashes. The B747 suffered 27 fatal crashes. The Tristar suffered 3 fatal crashes. The VC10 suffered 2 fatal crashes. The B757 suffered 5 fatal crashes. I'll also add the A321 stats (the closest competitor to the B757) - it has had only 1 fatal crash. The A330/A340 family have had only 3 fatal accidents. Now which aircraft type would you chose to fly...? |
'ere we go!
Lies, damned lies and statistics! Who is going to have a go at spinning this lot? Let's start by: Total hours flown by B747's vs. total hours flown by DC10's? Hours per fatal accident? |
ES,
You're taking it far too far. VC10man made a simple statement that he avoided the DC10 because it had too many crashes. Sure the jumbo has flown far more hours to make up for its higher representation in fatal accidents, but VC10man didn't say he avoided the DC10 because it had a higher rate of accidents. So I simply responded with in-kind comparisons. I wasn't having a go, nor was I spruiking one manufacturer over another (though any simpleton can make up their own minds on that count...:ooh:). I feel quite strongly that the old DC10 got a raw deal over a couple of accidents that, after the problems that caused them were rectified, had a very good record. |
A look at any of the travel search engines will show MAS as having the cheapest airfares on almost any route they operat So what type of engines are you using? I will be interested in in prices europe -manila below 300 eurs :E :ok: |
I found the same, there's no European route on which MH is the cheapest option right now that I found (AMS is the closest, where they match KLM but are beaten soundly by the one stoppers).
Business prices are decent though at around £1500 from AMS. |
Try Kayak as your search engine also look on the Malaysia Airlines website for the "economy promo" fares. You may need to be a bit flexible on your dates to get the cheapest deals.
|
I did find some excellent fares to AKL from AMS (returns into LHR). £744 with many dates available.

MAS announce restructuring plan.
|
I just checked flights to Guangzhou (CAN) as I'm possibly going there in November. Malaysian and China Southern come in at £559 and £554 respectively, Qatar at £599. Then Emirates, Asiana, Egyptair. Cheap they may be, but I won't fly on any of those.

MAS is in search of CEO

MH despite being one world, still do not offer BA status pax with executive club free seat choice on Y class fares.
That is something that they should sort out pronto -cos simple as it may be - it has stopped me flying with them and booking BA instead. |
@Nivsy
MH do if you phone them. I did two big trips earlier in the year GIB-LHR-BKK-KUL-PEK-LHR/LGW-AGP. I flew BKK-PEK with MH, tried to get BA switch the seats, but there was problems, phoned MH and it was sorted.
I have more problems with IB than MH, but that's another story...:} |
Capetonian, I would definitely chose Qatar, even the economy section is MUCH better, 3-3-3 on B777's, excellent legroom and fantastic IFE. Well worth that little extra money.....
