Another bar would be great as the current offering is woeful, and yes, I speak from personal experience.

I couldn't agree more with asdf1234. The bar is dreadful. An office with a few tables and chairs. No draught beers, and NO atmosphere. Very disappointing.

Deffo! Wetherspoon's (note name edit) work on a business model of being busy from when they open to when they close, even more so at airports because of higher rents.
They also expect a big food turnover which will effect the other outlets which I believe only do snacks.

Well - I believe that Doncaster Sheffield has a Wetherspoons (at least according to their website it does). Is Robin Hood that much more busy / constant flight-wise than SEN?


Certainly the current Lakers Bar at SEN does lack a certain ambience!!!!

I reckon that DSA has 11 departures and 10 arrivals today, whereas SEN has 19 of each. Different aircraft sizes may affect the pax numbers, but Links Air puddle jumpers are included in the DSA figures.

So, Wetherspoons it is.

No - I do not know for sure how many vacant units there are. But - according to the "Facilities" plan on the SEN website there would appear to be two - one either side of the new WCs on the lower airside level. I do recall from my last flight out that there appeared to be quite a large area that was boarded off. Perhaps there are now other plans for these areas??

I suspect that depending on the occupant's requirements, the airport can put up partition walls to accommodate different floorspaces within the total floorspace available. Realistically there could be more than 2 units up for grabs, maybe 4 tops (?). A pub/restaurant for example would require a lot more space and therefore less units would be available overall.

Half the total passenger count for the number of passengers using the airside facilities. Divide that by 364 and again by say 18 hours a day and you get the total number of potential passengers per hour that could use the retail outlets.

As the Southend passenger count increases then the new facilities become more desirable. I wonder how much rental income the airport is looking for?

The 146 that Jota plan to operate (N880PA, ex G-OZRH) was registered G-SMLA yesterday so I assume it will shorty undertake an airtest from MSE with a view to its C of A being issued shortly afterwards.

The airport will ask for a business plan with full financials from any prospective tenant and then work out a formula based upon turnover to determine the rent. They will insist upon a minimum rent and a share of your turnover above a certain limit. Where more than one tenant expresses interest they will ask for sealed envelopes stating the minimum rent the tenant is prepared to pay.

Listening in on the radio today, it seems that what used to call up as Arann is now using call-sign Stobart.

I notice that Aer Lingus Regional have reported strong growth again in passenger numbers across their network. SEN-DUB was up 6%. Still a bit confusing as to why they are dropping the route, and Flybe taking it over with a reduced schedule.

I have been advise re SEN-DUB...

All SEN-DUB flights from Nov-14 will be operated under the Flybe brand.
Aer Lingus will codeshare on the morning flights and connections from SEN to USA will be live and available to book on aerlingus.com from 25-Aug.

Any explanation for that? I fail to understand what the point of replacing an airline that (also) franchises BE by BE proper is.... It would have made some sense to replace the EI brand by the BE brand but keep the flights with Stobart, but this...?

Traditionally attempts at flights to the south east coast of England from Dublin have not faired well. Norwich, Manston and even Humberside never were popular. Clearly SEN has been the exception.

My suspicion is that the origin of most traffic on the route between Dublin and Southend originates in Southend. That coupled with the proportion of traffic going onwards to the US suggest that it could be more economical to market the route as Flybe with all other SEN routes.

May pave the way for BE to interline more with EI, feeding pax from CFN, INV, SOU, EXT and LCY through DUB to the US!
