Iraqi Airways
IA are planning to launch a weekly service to Afghan capital Kabul soon, the service will be from Najaf. This will make Iraqi the first non-Gulf Arab carrier to serve Afghanistan, prior to the 2000s Afghanistan was not served by any Arab airline in its aviation history.
Iraqi have also returned to Beijing and Stockholm according to news reports, and plan on restarting Bangkok, Tunis and Casablanca, new destination started is Tbilisi their third in Georgia, with Baku, Guangzhou and Shanghai planned, their Danish GSA website also shows the Turkish city Gaziantep in list of destinations. Since resumption of operations post 2003 IA have suspended Malmo (now tech stop for Gatwick), Athens, Damascus and Karachi (charter). Fleet wise they are taking in two more A321 and have also added a single F70, besides confirming order for a number of Bombardier CS300. |
IA are an airline I so want to see doing well but their fleet is all over the place (picking up random aircraft with no real structure), it's really hard to get any info on them and they have a lot of outstanding orders. Their website has potential... But is incomplete. I'm also dubious about airlines that dont paint their aircraft and have many different liveries etc...
I hope they (and Iraq) can get back on their feet and sort it all out, Baghdad is without at doubt an extremely culturally rich city, as are many in Iraq, Erbil too will become an excellent city, it already seems very interesting. |
Maybe they need a westerner be he Iraqi origin to run the show for a while, livery wise as follows:
CRJ9 new livery except one in previous saddam era scheme, three white. 738 new livery 737NG in basic AirTran livery 732 in revised version of saddam era livery, this look was also on one 727 A320 white A321 white A332 white 744 white with red engines, one in basic Malaysia airlines livery 763 white with red engines 77L white F70 ?? can't see them putting any bookable passenger seats in their regular money run to Woolsington tho'............
Pity - I'm sure Iraq would be cheaper than Dubai to visit......... |
No flights to NCL - are you thinking of Kuwait?
|
Are Iraqi in the GDS? If not will they ever be?
Their website isn't much use, but looks quite nice. |
"No flights to NCL - are you thinking of Kuwait?"
