Tunisair in serious trouble

Apparently, things are going badly for Tunisair; yesterday, there was an emergency meeting at the Tunisian transport ministry.The Secretary General of the department told those present that the government could do nothing for the airlinee and would let it fail.

The airline has been heavily loss-making; traffic has been declining and the airline's could only continue to make a loss in 2013.

Tunis : C’est officiel, l’Etat lâche Tunisair, bientôt en cessation de paiement.

The airline has been in operation for over 60 years and has a modern fleet of A300s, 737-500s 737NGs and A32X series aircraft, some of them very new. Three A330s are also on order.

Remains me of CH and EI in 1979 ! Way over staffed

Is it perhaps possible for 70% of staff to be asked to leave, ground half the fleet and close most of the loss making routes ? Brutal I know, but perhaps a way for the airline to survive in some form ? Or is Tunisair really utterly rotten to its very core ?

Tunisia need air connectivity for trade. Signing open skies with the EU is probably a good idea but needs some degree of time and consideration - best not done with a forced hand in a hurry. Will non-tourist air transport really just be handed on a platter to Air France (or Alitalia if they get their act together) ?

No RYR for me 29th Nov 2013 06:53

From one dinosaur to another dinosaur?? If you would say EasyJet and Ryanair it would make more sense :}
