The BA/QR joint business as it stands doesn't seem to include Australia.
I think if BA was minded to withdraw from SYD it would have done so already as there's no shortage of Oneworld codeshare partners. |
From what i heard from a BA management friend the BA 15 does extremely well for F and J pax and thats what makes it worthwhile-these peopele do not want to change planes in Doha and don't want to fly QR the whole way. So its survived while all the other BA Oz trips have faded into history.
If BA go BoB then I am worried because they have ramped up the charges for things like seat selection alarmingly and seem addicted to trying to screw as much as possible out of pax on extras which i think will come back to bite them. And as for short haul not being profitable, as pointed out thats just an accounting scam. All those AB 320 series whizzing around pretty full every day must ratchet up a lot of revenue even discounting interline stuff and without the costs of crew accomodation on long haul and massive amounts on fuel they have to be a very nice little earner. |
I seem to recall that earlier this year there were reports on here, or possibly elsewhere, of BA promotional advertising in Western Australia. Could this have been in anticipation of BA codeshares with QR out of places like Perth?

Buy On Board catering in Euro Traveller from January confirmed by Exec Club emailing. As expected M&S to supply. Payment by Avios or card.

I stand to be corrected but I'm pretty sure Easyjet manage with 4 on parallel routes to ones BA operate, however as you rightly point out they don't have the complication of Club which takes the senior crew member out of the loop. I have to say the way the Easyjet crew can scoot round the cabin on a shortish sector, handle cash in more than one currency, and make sure your heated breakfast sarnie gets to you promptly is v impressive. Sounds like mixed fleet, but TBH I'm not sure I'd see the youthfulness of the crew as a blocker to this. I do think It's going to need, shall we say, a cultural change for this to work successfully under current manning levels. ....if it's simply introduced without some form of training I can foresee problems. It certainly doesn't take terminal staff long to charge £65 for carrying a set of golf clubs. |
BA's Buy On Board will be card only which will probably speed things up.
Whilst today's news was long anticipated, I'm surprised they haven't announced anything to take the edge off for Gold cardholders or those that buy the most expensive fares who will be understandably riled at losing their free G&T. |
Well this should stop those greedy people who order a water, tomato juice and a G&T with all the trimmings on a 30 min MAN flight then moan when they surprisingly haven't got time to drink them before landing. Or those who blatanty abused the availability free alcohol on board....at least the coffee should taste better now coming from a decent supplier at last

It's been a few weeks since someone asked:
Any idea how the A380 and 747 compare with fuel consumption? |

AFAIK the A380 burns more, but not sure how much that works out per pax. Depends on the load factor I suppose.
I'd be extremely surprised if the fuel element of A380's seat-mile costs wasn't lower than for the 747. |

...and someone work out the final cost Luton to Copenhagen I bet you can add at least one nought to the £4.49!

I've heard whispers of BA returning to the LHR-JER route, Is there any truth in this I wonder or is it maybe just wishful thinking?
|
Well, they said that they would do it if there is a 3rd. R/W. Other than that, I've heard nothing. What is your source (if you can reveal it) ?
|
kcockayne - it came from from different airport worker sources, however the original source may be the same of course. Personally I'd be surprised to see the route return.

Hard to square that with WW's opposition to having a third runway at all. |
I believe so. If it wasn't directly said, it was certainly indicated to Jersey that the restoration of the Heathrow service was dependent on the building of a 3rd. R/W at Heathrow - as I remember it.I believe that WW's opposition to the 3rd. R/W surfaced sometime later, when he had had enough time to determine the likely implications of it to BAW.

I think it was Heathrow Airport Ltd said they would aim to offer more UK routes rather than BA suggesting they would. FlyBe anyone?
