Don't think all 734s are to be WFU, Think ones that have NOT been repainted into Union Crest livery are to go
|
Hi Businesstraveller,
There is no way of knowing which 747 fit you will get. New F (Prime) is only guaranteed on certain routes. However on routes where this is not guaranteed you could get a New F or old F bird. It really does depend on the day. On a positive note, any retired 747s with the new F product on will have that removed and refitted onto aircraft with the old F cabin still fitted. At least your chances will be improved somewhat! The old F isn't 'bad' per se, remember you get all the lounge things in addition to the service, food and drinks. The experience certainly won't be a disappointment! |
WIFI is coming to BA (mainline).
A single B747 will be fitted to start with, and pending the trial, will be rolled out further. It will apparently have the speed/capacity to stream movies. No exact date has been given for it to come online but is apparently imminent. |
They have to keep up with the fashion trends.

BA to NYC next Easter
A similar question to BusinessTraveller's, but in the boggo end of the aircraft. My girlfriend and I are going to NY in the spring, and reports from a friend who has flown LHR-LAX a few times lately says the B744s are very tired and uncomfortable (seats) inside. Was never a fan of any US airline but hearing good things about AAL's new B773s. I know we'll need to pay for a few drinks, but no big deal if the overall experience is better.
BA at T5 (need to connect from Scotland) is better if there's not much in it. Thoughts anyone? |
Fly to Newark on the 787??
|
Depending on cost i would not rule out the direct daily UA 757 to Newark.
Comfort wise its a better experience in this narrow body on a 6.5 hour flight than crammed in steerage on a 744 ! I Further consideration by the time you have shuttled eaten in Ramsey's visited the shops you would be have way their of the direct ! |
B787 to Newark?
GAXLN, all I can see for April is UAL 757-767 or 777, BA is all 777/747 to EWR or JFK. United go from GLA but want over £900 for it.
|
Can't say the BA B74s are any less comfortable than any other aircraft I've been on. The only problem I've had in the past is failing IFE.
I gather BA will have good cabin maintenance; I doubt they will defer defects for too long. |
I gather BA will have good cabin maintenance; I doubt they will defer defects for too long. OntimeexceptACARS - You do know United fly up to 14 times a week direct from Edinburgh to Newark and from northern summer 2014 daily from Edinburgh to Chicago :ok: |
OntimeexceptACARS - If you're going to the USA, the best option IMHO is to go via Ireland and do US immigration control before boarding at DUB or SNN. It will save yours hours of uncomfortable queueing on arrival. As far as onboard comfort is concerned, the Aer Lingus A330 was fine last time I flew it.
The only BA service I would consider would be the LCY morning departure (but no economy, sadly). |
Be surprised then - They really couldn't care less about the back of the bus. |
Never have a problem with comfort on BA744's, its not luxury down the back but its good vale for money and deffo way better than AA or UA
Never had an issue with cabin maintenance, ok IFE can need resetting but that's hardly the end of civilisation as we know it |
credibility and value into serious question, and with very good reason Many of the 734 and not a few of the more elderly 319s are very tired to say the least. As for the 744 fleet they up date the front for a few yet do little or nothing in Y so I have no intention of retracting any time soon Coach pays the bills and thats all. A necessary evil if you will. That said i am a believer I the adage you get what you pay for in most cases and a very large section of the paying public have it in their head that flying should be cheaper than the economics suggest it is when trying to make an ethical profit margin. |
Thanks for all the replies. Booked on BA but (mainly out of curiosity) going AA to JFK and back on BA from EWR. Rutankrd, you having a laugh? Why go to EDI when I'm right next to GLA! Seriously, meeting up with the future Mrs Acars and thats why the lure of fast immigration via DUB was kyboshed. She didn't want to fly on her own, not even 45mins BRS-DUB to meet me there.
My first time for a long time, so appreciate the feedback. Last time was GLA-JFK on a BA 757! |
Washington Dulles (IAD) is now confirmed as the fourth British Airways A380 route from 1st September.
|
As well as IAD being confirmed A380 from 01SEPT14, additonal 787 routes have been announced:
HYD from 30MAR14 CTU from 05MAY14 PHL from 05JUN14 YYC from 05JUL14 How many 787's/A380's will BA have by then? |
pallan,
By the time YYC switches to 787, we will have: 4 x A380s 8 x 787-8s The 787 switchovers are timed to coincide with a delivery of an additional frame to the fleet. At the moment, there are 4 in the fleet, with 2 due in April, 1 in May and 1 due in June therefore completing the -8 order. Obviously the route launches have a bit of a buffer in them just in case the aircraft is delayed by the odd week from Boeing. The 5th A380 I think is due in August which enables the IAD route to launch. Regards, Champ |
It might be old but I still love the upper deck club cabin on the 747, flown BA many times and flying again next week LHR/YVR, only ever had a problem once a lay flat bed that wouldn't but the staff were so good about it and I got a huge avios bonus so no complaints.
Looking forward to when it eventually becomes I hope an A380 but for now really happy with BA and the 747 thanks.:ok: |
