Personally with regards to the A380 I see it as a Niche product, bit like the Concorde was. It was actually rumoured to be that Airbus wanted to stop Concorde AOM support to increase development on the A380.

I guess it's no big loss as 25% of BA's revenue stream was 7 Concorde's.

It does seem that BA will go down the route of operating economical twin engines, from a BA engineering perspective it is more cost effective.

787 announced to operate on daily service to Chennai from October.

And there's a stricken 744 in HYD, 36 hour delay. Fuel leaking apparently.

Skipness One Echo, everyone seems to think it operated at a loss but that was never true. Air France yes, but British Airways operated the fleet 2 life-cycles past the airframes expectancy. She operated flawlessly.

On average Concorde made and operating profit of £30-50 Million a year for British Airways. I believe in the final months April-October this figure was £60 million or more with every seat being full. In 1999 BA earned £140 million in revenues, operating the fleet to unseen levels.

It's hardly unbelievable that Concorde was a major player within the airline. She operated gracefully for 27 years.

Nooo we don't, and you're mixing up revenue and operating profit.......
It was widely known Concorde became very profitable for BA when Concorde Division was formed, HMG wrote off the debts and they got G-BOAF/G for one shiny British pound each. The fleet had an operating profit but the cost base was climbing as the aircraft aged and with the added complications of the kevlar tanks.

Does anybody know where I can find any reliable information with regards to BA's financial reports. I want to know the companies total revenue for 2013 and their operating profit. This information does not seem to be available on the IAG website and I am unsure of the reliability of other sources of information. Any help would be much appreciated.

(2) APD is scrapped/substantially reduced throughout the UK.

Short answer no !

The future choices seem to be A350-1000 and/or 779 for some time next decade.

Questions remain if they will place a follow on order for the 388 .

The timings are however not pressing especially with outstanding orders on the 788/789 A359 and 388 yet to be completed.

Forgive me for being suspicious, but I am minded to think that if the passionate, but unplanned, do actually win on emotion in September, that this will remove any political need for BA to continue serving "outlying regions" of the UK north of the border which would allow them to reduce services from GLA, ABZ & EDI and reallocate slots at LHR to more lucrative routes. Scotland will become as far as BA are concerned, just another mildly interesting tourist destination on the fringe of Europe.


Overall, I would predict that if this happens, we'll get a service similar to that of Norway and BA will get over a dozen slots per day to re-allocate.

Not quite. BA has a lot of high value, connecting passengers from the various Scottish airports. BA itself is highly invested in Scotland, with a major engineering operation.

Would British Airways keep its maintenance facilities at Glasgow after a yes vote? I personally cannot see British Airways performing the maintenance of its short haul fleet in what would be a foreign country.
