US ICAO code outside the US

Hi all,

I have noticed that Bagram airport is using KQSA as ICAO aerodrome code although it is in Afghanistan.

What I know is that the first letter of four letter ICAO code is the region where the airport is, the second is the country code, then the last two letters is for the airport.

Why is Bagram using K (which is for the US) out side US and not using OA ( which is for Afghanistan)?

Are there any other airports worldwide that use odd ICAO codes?

Thank you

US military air base perhaps?

I would think it's what EISNN says, although I assume it does have an original Afghani code

Mount Pleasant (Falkland Islands) is EGYP ...

I don't know if it still happens, but some mil/civil airfields used to have 2 ICAO codes for each function.

When RAF Manston was functioning it and Manston civil had two separate ICAO codes. I believe now it is just EGMH.

You mean like OAIX and KQSA?
