Lgw replacement

With the S2014 schedule being launched in the next month or two and the loss of flybe LGW are we going to see EI increase services to LGW or would BA consider an early morning and evening service, after all they will be losing out on code sharing passengers who must use the service heavily to connect with BA network

BCALBOY 25th Jun 2013 12:18

I suspect EI will continue their service , maybe even go back to 4/day as they started this summer.BAmay codeshare on EI but don't expect to see BA metal on LGW as well as LHR.

BFS101 25th Jun 2013 13:42

Can't see BA metal on the LGW route, didn't they pull MAN not so long ago. I would imagine that BA will replicate their codeshare as per LHR from Belfast, allowing for connections. I could also see VS codeshare also.

Longterm, I think rather than EZY vs BE, it'll be EZY vs EI, albeit with a bit of capacity shuffling. EZY may up frequency initially to steal market share, EI might add a fourth rotation, but ultimately it'll reach equilibrium just as it was with EZY and BE competing.

BE were carrying about 22k pax per month at most on the route BHD LGW. EI will be keen to capture all of that level of business for themselves, and I would expect they will hope for x3 daily well subscribed 319s and get some yield on the market. However, they would need to improve the timing of the last back flgiht to ensure good for business as well as current leisure passenger.

I would suggest that EZYs gains have been many ex BFS LHR passengers who want to use BFS as their Belfast airport.

BA would be better to focus on improving their performance on BHD LHR as with the high frequency they and EI combined are only at loads of 50 something % per month, and BA have had good value too so it would suggest yield has not been spectacular.

I`m hearing rumours from friends that are travelling out of City soon that they were unable to book any car parking because all the car parks are full! Perhaps its time they used some of the management bonus scheme or their community fund to create a few new spaces pronto..:uhoh:

On the plus side its a good problem to have but on the down side its not really good to have to turn good revenue away, I`m sure BOAL must be very happy though.:O Perhaps its time for a bit of forward planning, no point in attracting lots of new business and new routes if the infrastructure cant cope.

Perhaps they could make a mutually benficial deal with Boal to promote them as a preferred partner for the longer term parking required by the bucket and spade routes? Problem solved to the benefit of BHD, Boal and Ikea.

They could even put a pass controlled security gate between the airport and Ikea to make it easier for people to use Boal.

panpanpanpan 26th Jun 2013 11:23

EGAC - I would have thought City management would be approaching IKEA to hire the middle floor of their car park and undercut BOAL rather than try and share the lucrative profits that is involved in car parking!

They were planning to build a hotel at one stage in the car park, how about they just build a multi floor car park like IKEA instead? Access by a covered walkway and no need to wait for a bus to take you to IKEA.:ok:

EGAC is Better 26th Jun 2013 16:49

Perfect panpanpanpan :ok:

I'll get on to IKEA and get that middle floor sorted while you finish the project of building a multi-storey!

Anyone want to volunteer to tell Brian Ambrose that he is sacked?

:O

They already have a huge free car park

It is called Sydenham!
Simply park your car in one of the streets near the bridge, walk across the bridge, go through the gates and lift the phone. They sent a brand new Ford Galaxy to collect my wife and I and dropped us 30 yards from the front door.
I'm not sure how well this would work for a family going on holiday to AGP (only an example) but hey a taxi from Sydenham to BHD wouldn't cost anywhere near 2 weeks parking.

I'm not sure how the residents of Sydenham would view this but keep it quiet....

Titan B733 G-POWC

Just noticed the above aircraft appears to be shuttling between BHD, LGW and STN today. Can anyone shed any light on why this is the case?

Just curious, any info gratefully received.

Thanks,
AC

Aerlingus231 10th Jul 2013 16:27

Probably a charter in for EI. They use Titan to operate services when an aircraft goes tech instead of canceling them...

belfastmark 10th Jul 2013 17:00

I'm just guessing but it probably has something to do with the 600 or so police officers coming over to help out over the 12th. Ei flights seem to be ok. I stand to be corrected though.

redED 10th Jul 2013 19:02

As belfastmark said.

EGAC is Better 10th Jul 2013 22:33

:ok: Cool, thanks gents.

EI-A330-300 19th Jul 2013 11:49

June passengers up 25.5% with 237,297 pax

Loads on European routes
Faro 87.6%
Malaga 86.5%
Palma 82.4%

Aerlingus231 19th Jul 2013 12:14

Those are some very healthy load factors alright... :D

BHD2BFS 19th Jul 2013 13:16

is EI going back down to 2ac and 2 routes for winter?
is there going to be any winter sun routes or ski routes?

GAZMO 19th Jul 2013 13:33

It would be difficult to see EI operating 14 weekly winter flights to either sun or ski destinations? (Assume to flights per day)
GVA weekly possibly, but ALC is covered by LS and EZY for the winter. FAO and AGP maybe twice weekly at best. Not much point in having an aircraft not operating at least 14 flights per week. With low yields in the winter months it may be better with only two based at BHD

Aerlingus231 19th Jul 2013 13:46

W pattern from DUB might be an option for a 3 a week service to AGP or FAO.

BCALBOY 19th Jul 2013 17:14

As regards W pattern from Dub , I know due to the bases operating on different contracts,BHD crew can't operate out of DUB .Don-t know if there is any restriction on DUB crew optg into BHD ?

Even if there isn't a contractual restriction ,using DUB crew would be more expensive. Which might impact viability. In addition I doubt if crew time limits
Would allow one crew to operate 4 sectors on routes as long as FAO or AGP.
So would probably have to have 1 crew optg Dub/Agp/Bhd then position by road to Dub and a second crew doing the opposite. This again would affect costs.

There is spare time on the BHD/LGW a/c ...on SAT from mid DEC to mid MAR
The a/c operates from BHD at 0645 and arr back at 1015 and is free for the rest of the day ( this coincides withe Ski season).

Also on Sundays in the winter I would question if there is enough demand
For both 0645 to LGW and 0720 to LHR .IF they ditched the 0645 to LGW the a/c would be free until 1530 in the afternoon.

the answer to your questions are yes , maybe and no

Amsterdam

Seen that someone has put on the BHD wiki that EI are starting AMS from March next year.

GAZMO 8th Aug 2013 14:28

Not a great source for info!!!

EI did try AMS twice daily when they started at BFS, soon came down to a daily flight and then withdrawn. Once bitten twice shy!!!

Mlinnie 8th Aug 2013 14:58

AMS

Exactly ! If any airline is to start AMS from BHD surely it would be KLM ? They must be at least considering it

GAZMO 8th Aug 2013 15:35

AMS

I doubt if KLM would consider with EZY offering nine weekly flights already.

I know a few posters will talk about connections via AMS, but in reality that is very few. Most people from NI will still connect via LHR or travel to DUB

Another_Dude 9th Aug 2013 12:59

Looking at the flybe thread it sounds like bhd will only have one emb175 Over winter. What happens to the crew, do they go onto the dash?

flying officer kite 9th Aug 2013 16:15

One E175, and one E195 this winter

TLS Ski charter

Hi everyone,

First time post since I discovered this forum a few months ago, so I hope this is a good starter,

I was searching for my annual ski holiday [.directski.com] quotes and I have noticed that the Belfast route has changed from BFS - Llieda to BHD - TLS with Flybe.

Has it not yet been announced?

Or embarrassing for myself have I missed it from a previous discussion?

redED 1st Sep 2013 22:30

Sunday morning Toulouse charter, you'll be glad to know it looks like it's on the 195.

blues-on 2nd Sep 2013 07:32

Annual ski Holiday.

Much relieved that Flybe will use a 195. I had this horrible thought of puddle jumping. :ok:

ExoticSkier 2nd Sep 2013 20:31

TLS Charter

Many thanks,

It will be a new aircraft type for myself, however I would not mind the Q400 for the above average leg room.
Has this charter operated every season or is this the first?

I look forward to trying out BHD on an international route.

Arrivals Lounge

How come, when we flew back from Faro this summer, we didn’t get to use their lovely new Arrivals Lounge?...

Belfast City Airport - £1.7 MILLION ARRIVALS LOUNGE OPENS AT BELFAST CITY AIRPORT

…instead, we got bussed around to a pokey room.

:{

stab3.5up 6th Sep 2013 18:43

That was it! Lol

ESCNI 6th Sep 2013 18:51

Are you serious?

£1.7M for that?!

stab3.5up 6th Sep 2013 21:39

More or less tbh. It is an appaling waste of money

GAZMO 6th Sep 2013 22:12

Maybe you should use EZY, LS or charter from BFS?

Jack1985 6th Sep 2013 22:27

Maybe you should use EZY, LS or charter from BFS?
What kind of a response is that? Maybe he prefers to fly Aer Lingus not that, that even matters. £1.7m on an arrivals area is a fairly hefty expense and because someone disapproves of that expense, BHD fans shouldn't advise them to fly elsewhere.

mart901 6th Sep 2013 22:49

In fairness I don't think anyone could call GAZMO a BHD fan somehow......

GAZMO 6th Sep 2013 23:14

I am a fan of any airport !
