Hand baggage is usually done at the gate....

Thomson used to offer this at certain Platinum range hotels (think last time was around 2005), and was such as fantastic end in not having to stand in an "all Thomson flights" queue at the overseas airport. Well done Jet2 for adopting!

Hand baggage is usually done at the gate.... also what about your hand luggage if and when will this be weighed if you go straight to security?? |

Perhaps the only difference I suppose now, is that almost the entire flight will have checked-in online and have self-printed boarding cards. Maybe this will help with the procedure in some way? |
I have to ask...as a tour operator/airline...why are you there? To investigate, bully and harass your customers or to sell seats on planes and transport your customers from A to B?
|
Given most of the pax now are families off on Jet2holidays packages, the aim is to make their experience as smooth and hassle-free as possible. Retention of passengers year on year depends on their experience as a whole, and not just loading them on and chucking them off at the other end. Pax travelling in the morning from Manchester this Summer can use the 'Twilight' service where they drop off their bags the afternoon before they fly. The target, as you can see in its advertising, is families - where because of kids, the last day is generally not worth counting as part of the holiday. In theory, you could have the kids' cases packed, checked-in, and rid of in the morning, while they're still in the hotel room, making travelling back home a whole lot less stressful :ok:
|
I'm assuming that most of the places that this is being offered are self-handling, so apart from moving some staff shift times around it doesn't matter where the bags are collected from a cost perspective.
|
what concerns me is the security of the cases once they have left hotel, could they be tampered with or could one even be swapped for one with a device inside,in this day and age this does concern me,

Non airport bag check in happens all over the world. Hong Kong, Vienna, Abu Dhabi, many German & Swiss rail stations, to name but a few. The same things happen with cruise ship luggage too.
Short of carrying your luggage yourself to the aircraft hold there are no guarantees either way, although you would expect them to be x-rayed and/or randomly searched too before loading, the same as when you check it in at the airport. |
Now if Jet2 Holidays did full ski packages this would be a winner - no more lugging a case, skis and boots onto a bus and around small airports with few facilities.

New Routes for S17
New routes for Jet2 put on sale today.
Almeria (LEI) - East Midlands, Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester & Newcastle Thessaloniki (SKG) - East Midlands, Edinburgh, Leeds & Manchester. |
SKG an odd choice. Will be interesting to see if that lasts the course. Almeria always a bit of a hit or a miss too.
|
Quite disappointed no Thessaloniki for NCL, would rather that than a 2nd airline to Almeria... Why do they all keep going for everyone else's turf!

Rather strange that Jet2 has decided against adding either of these new destinations from Glasgow. Are there any plans to further expand Glasgow's route offering by Jet2?
|
From the ad above the text, i see the recruiting team are off on their hols again to HKG this time. I wonder if the Tiger will taste the same!

Jet2's expansion at EDI recently has been remarkable. |

With 6 based Boeing 737-800s including the Air Europa aircraft I believe this makes Glasgow one of Jet2's largest bases in terms on aircraft and overall capacity. However when looking at the number of destinations served, with 29 Glasgow has the second smallest route network. Only Belfast has less. This could suggest that the routes on offer from Glasgow operate on a frequency higher than that of the average Jet2 route? Even with daily flights and in some cases more which do offer good flexibility to passengers I'd personally like to see more destinations offered. With such a small route network from Glasgow in comparison to other Jet2 bases it does appear there are plenty of non-served destinations for Jet2 to grow to from its Glasgow base with the aforementioned Thessaloniki and Almeria being two.

For the vast majority including myself its a case of fly direct from Glasgow or take a connection via a hub. I fly more times in a year than I care to count and not once have I ever looked at flying from Edinburgh. Nothing against the airport or the city. But with a perfectly good airport on my doorstop serving all destinations, direct or by one-stop, I'm going to use it. :) |
I dont think that is true - for the flights Jet2 offer, why would anyone fly via a hub? They want direct flights and where they are not available from GLA, the convenience of EDI to West of Scotland passengers helps this (it is on the right side of the city for one). I'd imagine there are also some passengers that would use GLA over EDI for a direct flight but in general GLA is harder to get to if you don't travel by car and is on the wrong side of the city to make it simple for East of Scotland pax.
Its your choice that you wont use EDI out of principle and its admirable that you support your local airport by always flying from there but i would suggest that the majority will actually seek out a direct flight wherever possible (certainly to any of Jet2's destinations) rather than have to connect in London for example. This is of course different for long-haul flights where a connection is more acceptable. |
I've never agreed with the argument that EDI is somehow on the 'right side of the city.' North, south, east or west it's still on the otherside of the country from the Scotland's biggest city and GLA is after all at the heart of Scotland's largest population centre.
With regards to your other comments, I have friends travelling to Malta in a few days time. They are travelling from Glasgow via Amsterdam. This is why hub routes exist. People are willing to pay more to fly from an airport on their doorstep even if it involves a stop. Glasgow has two of its own airports and for the few who are willing to travel hours more to save a tenner, there are regular trains to Manchester which I'd estimate takes more passengers from Glasgow than what EDI does. Like I said above, I see potential for Jet2 to add an additional aircraft to Glasgow and a number of possible routes they could deploy such an aircraft on. Here's hoping there is more to come from Jet2 at Glasgow for S17. |

I certainly wouldn't have a problem travelling through to GLA to use get a direct flight if I was travelling to anywhere in Europe if one wasn't available at EDI. I have done this a few times before and it will be absolutely the same in reverse. Thankfully there are not many destinations in Europe left that EDI doesn't have covered. When travelling long haul though, the connections are inevitable. |
Apparently another Titan aircraft will be based at MAN for summer 2016, anyone with any more info, hearing it will be a A320
|
There was a second Titan A320 at Manchester this afternoon but it was parked at T2 which suggests it wasn't subbing for Jet2. There was also one of their 757 at T2; a bit odd as I think it was subbing for Vueling, who use T3 (I think).
|
The a320 - GPOWK - will indeed be operating for jet2. Not all of summer but set routes for the next few weeks. I'm unsure the reason why.
|
GPOWK A320 is based at MAN for the next month starting tomorrow morning.

Jet2 expands winter schedule from Edinburgh Airport - Daily Record
LS have doubled this winter's seat offering from EDI. W16/17 will see them add Fuerteventura and Turin from the capital. This likely to be the start of many winter frequency increases over the next few years, certainly W17 onwards as the new a/c start entering service :ok: |
Jet2 738:
Whatever happened to your thread in the Spectators’ Forum? It seems to have been deleted. W16/17 has seen huge increases across the board at all the JET2 bases and is an obvious push for a better utilisation of aircraft. All this winter flight planning was instigated well before the order for the new B738s from Boeing had taken place, so that it was probably prompted by the fact that JET2 found that it could only match their requirements for B738 aircraft by leasing them. At the moment they have 10 B738s on dry leases. Doubtless, now they have the firm order of the new B738s, JET2 may well start returning the leased B738s to the lessors or negotiating with them a purchase price. It would make sense to resolve the leased B738s' issue before retiring their owned B733 fleet. Tour Operators and specialist Tour Operators have been producing winter holiday programmes since the 60s, so most destinations and progammes have already been invented and tried. The JET2 winter programmes would need to be constructed gradually but won’t require too much imagination. Even with the restrictions of travel to certain destinations, there is still scope to include other destinations and increase the present winter programmes substantially with the only restriction being the money and value of the money at the disposal of the customers. |
Djerba,
I have no idea why the link for said forum no longer appears on the Spectators Balcony, though you can still find it at http://www.pprune.org/spectators-bal...98-jet2-7.html Indeed, a push for the better utilisation of aircraft has driven the move as you say. My comment regarding the new ones was aimed at the fact that with Jet2 owning the majority of their fleet (of course excluding the 10 738s on lease) they are able to park them up for most of the winter, without significant costs (in leasing). I think this could see Jet2s very seasonal operation begin to diversify, offering more Canarian/B&S roots and ski breaks during the quiet winter months. |

Thank you. |
When having passed the selection, can you choose a base or will Jet2 choose for you?
|
New base at BHX announced... 4 x 738 apparently
|
What an absolute success story this airline is. It's Leeds based you know?
|
Quite right LA. I believe Jet2 thought about setting up at Birmingham but decided Leeds was a better move and what a success it has been too and giving them the cash and momentum to spread across several bases in the UK and now Birmingham. Where next?

Indeed, quite the jump for the airline. The new base will operate with 4x738s, all of which (at least initially) to be from the new batch. See Jet2's owners Dart Group PLc has reported that it more than doubled pre-tax profits to £104.2m in the past 12 months. In the year to 31 March 2016 the company increased pre-tax profits by 159% from £40.2m last year whilst revenues also took off, rising 12% to £1.4bn.

Cardiff has to be high on their list now that they have pushed further south.
The bucket and spade market is huge in Wales, with most opting for BRS or BHX due to the limited availability out of CWL. |
That's what I have heard too, it's the holiday side of the business that is the driver. Cardiff and Norwich also.
Malaga |
That's what i heard ages ago, from a Jet2 employee too ! CWL was the rumoured airport along with BHX, so if there are spare aircraft to go around, count CWL in. As stated above the bucket and spade market is pretty large in Wales and will also be able to bring in passengers from the BRS catchment.
I did also hear NWI but maybe SOU instead ? Remains to be seen. Out of curiosity how many aircraft do LS now have spare for S17 including the new ones from the Boeing order ? |
Where did you 'hear' all this from? :ugh:
