More Tech woes

Jet2 Manchester to Faro flight delayed due to 'air conditioning fire' - Manchester Evening News

LN-KGL 16th Jul 2014 15:32

It looks like G-CELI is flying in stead of one of the LS 752s - ETA 16:19 UTC, 6 hours 19 minutes late.

And more.. Passengers travelling to Newcastle endure 17 hour delay as pilot catches up on his sleep - Chronicle Live

Fed up of seeing them to be honest.

Fed up of stories about Jet2 or stories about moaning passengers?

The problem with these stories is they grow legs, of course all airlines have tech issues, but having said that of late Jet2 is in the press for the wrong reasons and there is no getting away from the fact that older aircraft have more issues period, its a fact of engineering

The weakness of the 737 is its air systems

Given the compensation culture and the recent court case these delays are going to hurt in the pocket

So are we!! Happened on 13th July, conveniently brought up on the 16th!

Yes i'll have a standby Crew for every flight and contingency and the punters can pay twice / three times as much for the ticket price.
Maybe they can add that option when they pay for the ticket, cost of ticket 100 do you want a hire car, hotel, insurance, or an extra crew that's another 100 please select here. Punters we love them, just bad luck better a awake crew than a tired one for me

Ops must have known the situation before the flight departed and should have made contingency plans, if possible, to minimise the delay and the overall cost to the airline.

It is not a case of having a standby crew for every flight but a case of having a standby crew at least at one of their bases to cover such eventualities.

However, if it is a case that a standby crew were already covering another flight, then its tough luck - these things happen, not pleasant but these things do happen.

I guess we do not know the full story.

Anyone heard any rumours about jet2 buying airbus. Don't want to say where i heard this but seem pretty serious

fa2fi 27th Jul 2014 07:36

I don't see why they would. They've been exclusively Boeing for many years. Any talk of going airbus would only be used as a bargaining chip against Boeing so any airbus rumour would only suggest to me that they're going to buy new jets direct from Boeing.

Lord Spandex Masher 27th Jul 2014 08:14

Not necessarily........

pwalhx 27th Jul 2014 08:59

There were if I recall correctly rumours of an A330 so who knows what may happen

CabinCrewe 27th Jul 2014 10:21

they don't buy new so why would it be a bargaining tool against Boeing ?

horsebox 27th Jul 2014 10:43

They will buy what other carriers are getting rid off at the right price.... Rumours of bigger machines float about from time to time.

The jet2 business is very seasonal, older aircraft bought outright sitting around idle over winter is the way it works.

take-off 27th Jul 2014 11:44

Ooh an A330 out of BLK , now that would be interesting:E:E:E:E

We'll talk of airbus , monarch will have a few Vintage A320/1's for sale in near future , should they take those new 737s....

Yes but that's changing. Leased 800's need to fly more than owned 300's.

What are Jet2 getting more of? What will they start getting rid of?

Vintage or not Monarch will not have any a/c for sale as the don't own any.:ugh:

Artie Fufkin 27th Jul 2014 20:41

It's that time of year again. Maxed out crew start hallucinating and "hearing" news from above. Last year it was Titan and widebodies. This year it appears to be Airbus.

My prediction is another tranche of knackered 800s. Anyone want to bet against me?

CabinCrewe 27th Jul 2014 20:44

I would certainly bet against the term "knackered"...

Facelookbovvered 28th Jul 2014 07:00

Jet2 have no previous form in buying new aircraft, why would they change a policy that in general has served them well and as others have pointed out its a seasonal business, if that means they can park their owned fleet and crews over the winter and just use leased aircraft so be it, it seems to work.:ok::ok:

horsebox 29th Jul 2014 20:51

They only have about 6 leased aircraft and 44 they own outright according to their latest annual report.

Biggest challenge they have is to make it an all year round business, which probably means some longer haul type destination, which would mean something larger of A330 or 767 sort of size. Whether they are in a position to do that anytime soon is anyones guess..
