737-800 Similarity?

Hi, what's everyone's thought on which is a closer match to a 737-800. Either the 737-300 or the 757-200?

This is in terms of exterior looks as well as interior looks.

Many thanks in advance

Neither. That will be the 737-400 that closest matches the looks...

As for interior, all the 737 from the 300, 400 and 500 along with older built 757 aircraft are the same in terms of fittings. The only difference really is obviously length.

Can I just ask why you ask this?

Whilst to all intents and purposes they look the same inside other than in terms of length, for some reason Delta could not switch catering from a 737-800W to a 737-700 when a tech fault required an aircraft change resulting in a long delay on an internal US flight I was on last year. You would think that commonality would extend to the catering carts?

We can just note here that all the Boeing narrowbody aircraft, from the 707 in 1958 up through the 727, 737 (all models) and 757 along the way, have used the same fuselage cross-section, built to the same dimensions on the same tooling (if any has actually lasted 52 years), and apart from the 757 they have all had the same nose/flight deck exterior as well, leaving aside some details.

Yes the cabin interiors have changed many times (and are actually a customer variable option), but are ultimately fitted to the same structure.

Which I am sure is a record unsurpassed by any other group of designs. I presume the 747 cabin structure design comes second in such a design longevity consideration. All done in the days of drawing boards and pencils.
