Any news?

It could be a good field to run quickies to LCY, NCL, SOU, CWL, BHD and the like with 25-35 seaters charging full fares and offering good service. Handy for Cheshire (Bramhall, Wilmslow, etc) and quick as you like. Portacabins as "terminals" would be good. Runway is long enough. ATC handy.

I guess not, however, this being England.

Is nobody going to put up any sort of fight to save these facilities or is everyone just going to roll over in total apathy ?

Surely such a collection of assembly hangars and a superb runway could have a future if say a servicing company was to take control similar to Lasham ?

IF it does go housing then somebody is taking one hell of a bung !! It is incredibly difficult to get planning for anything in that area at present.

i agree with ian, cant see it being used as an airfield sadly,loads of rumours about housing estates business park, (or both) and also a country park with boating lake!. the area is green belt but since when has that meant anything to the developers.
did hear there might be plans for a last air show this year or next any news on that?

Lets hope there is at least one last airshow, when they were good at Woodford they were very good. When the weather was pish, not so much, apart from the day the B1 came a calling. :ok:

With prices off houses in that area,slump or no slump in the market,the land sold off for housing should be worth a mint.
On the other hand as already stated it would make a good maintenance base,and or,storage for aircraft, and a executive base.
As for city point to point flights I do not think that would work.

I would have though it would be first class. Close to the catchment areas for the majority of affluent Cheshire people, most of whom are no doubt bored of commuting through MAN every week. One could even draw parallels with LCY. Except calling it man city may not go down well with half the population.

Skipness. Good point. But look at Marshals facility in CBG. It is portacabins underneath but very nicely tarted up. I was amazed when someone told me that.

sorry guy's just cant see it happening with man being so close,it wouldnt pay to keep it open for a few bizz jets now and then,and the "quickies" would all go from man anyway, also who would own and run it?

I think that it is to close to Man,also the Cheshire set number wise, is probably only small in number compared to how many work in the City of London.
It would require investment and commitment from an airline,to justify the required cost
which in these times I do not think would be forthcoming.

I have registered my support as I worked there for 19 years, I also worked many of the airshows, marshalling, refueling etc. Recently I flew in twice for circuit sessions taking advantage of the free landing fees to get Woodford in the log book.

I intend to try and organise a fly-in during the last few weeks of operation if the owners allow it.

A small PR-type article in the MEN about NetJets mentioned that they use Woodford as well as the larger airports in the North West for their flights.

I'd be interested to know how many times NJE have used Woodford in the past year or so. I've only seen/heard 1 private jet there in the last year and it was a privately owned Hawker.

I suggested the idea of a WFD-LCY shuttle back in the early 90s using the new staff canteen as check in/security area as it was available in the morning and afternoon. The idea was rejected as it would potentially pinch customers from operators and possible 146 customers at MAN.

VLM went from operating a 3x daily service MAN-LCY to a 0x daily service. Has no-one understood this messge?
