NINOY AQUINO INTERNATIONAL (MNL)

Is terminal 3 doomed?

Anybody who has some "insiders" on this now 5 year old and never operated Terminal?

Rumours are saying it will be converted into a shopping mall?

I have no inside information - last reports say 2008 and this maybe right because the court case is sorted and the roads infratructure is almost complete - Manila doesnt need another shopping mall but my God it needs a new airport terminal. I rate the old one T1 as the worst in the world (unless someone knows differently). When I land there I go WOW Phillipines!

The truth is nobody knows. I know one of the subcontractors on this project and they have no idea either.

Part of the roof collapsed in 2007 and this will need fixing before anything it opens. Some questions about the structural integrity of the building...

Par for the course for the Philippines I'm afraid.

I think the airport is only part of the problem.
When you leave the airport during the rains it is absolutely dire.Everywhere is flooded.

I once was on a flight to Manila during a storm. The airport was hit by lightning causing power failure so emergency generators were fired up.These were located in underground bunkers. Then, the water filled the bunkers, submerged and killed the generators.
Main power came back on later and we landed. Not a nice place.

looks like VFR for now at Manila.

Broken navigation system imperils flights at Manila airport - CNN.com

Despite a broken radio navigation system, planes will still be able to land and depart from Manila airport, aviation officials in the Philippines said Saturday.
The system, especially important for planes landing at night, bogged down Saturday.
Earlier, it was thought that the Doppler VHF Omnidirectional Rangefinder's malfunction would affect the landing and departure of 136 planes if it's not repaired by sunset. A total of 155 international and domestic flights were scheduled to come in Saturday night, the Civil Aviation Authority said.
Several Philippine Airlines flights from the United States and the Middle East were delayed. The navigation system is key to aiding approaching and landing planes at Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
But radar and distance measuring equipment were operational and air traffic controllers would be able to guide planes until they closed in on the runway, said Alfonso Cusi, director general of the Civil Aviation Authority, in a news release. At that point, approaching planes would be able to land provided that visibility was good.
Another airport north of Manila was prepared to receive diverted flights, Cusi said.

Hope the boss sees this....wouldn't mind a few days calibration in Manila!

- crikey! Sounds really dangerous to me. Second only to no cheese board loaded.

Weather is crap in Manila at the moment.
Costing me a fortune to fix the MIL's leaking roof.

No doubt the heads at Clark will have a busy evening.

Lots of sighing and fawning ahead.

"Hello Sirrrrrrrrr."

"No sirrrrrrr, not yet. We are tryiiiiiiiing!"
