MAXJET & EOS loaned LHR Slots?
 

"Rumour" has it some 'european' airlines are preparing to "loan" Maxjet and EOS some slots into LHR for the start of open skies to compete against BA out of protest from BA's plans to start serving european cities from the USA!

Any other news?! They both seem to be doing very well out of STN.

The reason EOS and MAXJET do so well out of Stansted is that they have little or no competition.
Theyre offering routes to people like me who live north of London and would have to drive another hour (at least) and pay considerably more for both the air ticket and parking of I went to Gatwick or Heathrow

Despite political rivalry, if either airline decided to operate from Heathrow or Gatwick, they'd encounter formidable financial costs which they don't presently have.

Slots are one thing, but a considerable increase in operating costs and exposure to the open market are another.

I can't see that European Airlines would loan slots as a 'protest' against BA planning to start flights from Europe to the USA. If they wanted to they would use the slots to operate them themselves.

interesting to note that silverjet shares have dropped like s stone recently.
A friend on the inside says all is not as rosy as it looks ,they could be in for tough times ahead as the market gets more competitive.

Silverjet shares have taken a tumble for two reason;

1. Late delivery of second airframe due to corrosion issues
2. Closing down of Flyjet at the end of this year.

Still planned to have 10 airframes in 2 years time, so watch the share price rise once more.

Agree with your take on the share drop. Certainly things have not been easy for Silverjet, especially when you only start with a single aircraft and problems will happen. If you look back about a year or so ago, Maxjet was having all sorts of reliabilty problems when they first started, but have survived, and now have a very worthwhile product.

Silverjet should have five aircraft by March 08, and I believe the new destination will be announced with the Aug traffic figures, early next month or very soon after. The share price should then start to climb, especially as the second daily EWR is to start on 21 Sept(no further delays we hope).

The reasons for shares falling sound legit , but that doesn-t mean they
aren-t a concern...i.e you know why they're falling but that doesn-t mean
its not a problem.

Also , the article may suggest Silverjet aspires the expansion to 10 a/c but this has nothing to do with their ability to do such expansion.

If Flyjet are closing down at the end of 2007 will Silverjet start to operate on their own AOC (if they don't already) and with their own ops department or are there other plans afoot ?

Many carriers start with one airframe. Virgin Atlantic Airways had a single 741 (if memory serves) out of LGW and they have just passed their 21st anniversary and are doing fairly well.
